Guard is $283,045.62, or $51.38 per an-
num for each ofiicer and man, on a basis -
of 2,760 men, the present membership. -
The estimate for the four companies ofi
the Governor’s. guard is $11,508.16, or
19.18 annually for each. of the 300 offi-
cers‘ and men. , .
The military commutation tax of $2
per capita, imposed upon every able-
bodied citizen between 18 and 45_‘ years
of age, who does not perform military
duty or is not exempted therefrom,
produces about $125,000 er year. ,The
returns of the last enrolment are not
yet in. ' but the tax Will probably
amount to about $250,000 to $260,000
for the succeeding two years.
