noon makes a covert attack on the Prince
of Wales’s absence from the Tennyson
funeral services. The Star prints a letter
saying that the Prince of Wales prefers
to go shooting or to attend the New-
market races to attend the funeral of
uch a man as Tennyson.

A Cause Celebre Begun In the French
Courts at Grosso.
i GnAssn, Francs, Oct. 14.—‘l‘he action of
'Mr. Edward Parker~ Deacon against his
wife began here today. The trial is taken
to prove criminal intercourse on the part
of the defendant, in order that the plain-
tiff can apply for a divorce. The greate._t
interest is manifested in the case here,
and at 7 o’clock this morning the doors
of the court house were besieged by a
large crowd of people, all eager to gain
admission to the court room. At half-
past eight o’clock the doors of the court
room were opened, and in a few minutes
eveay available inch of space was occu-
pie . -
Mr. Deacon was present in the court
room, but Mrs. Deacon was assent. She
was represented by couns-sl, however,
who conunded that the court was in-

LoxDON, Oct. 14.—Another case 92-

few- days ago at Windsor, when ‘thé
members of C Squadron of the First Rig-
iment of Life Guards revolted again-kt
their treatment by certain of their bf-
ficers, has occurred at Portsmouth. The
Thirteenth Company of‘the Army Ser-
vice Corps, stationed at Portsmouth,
have been compelled to attend a number
of extra drills, which, they claimed, were
entirely unnecessary, and they b.carne
irritated at What tuey believed to be
their officers’ harsh treatment.
Aconspirncy was hatcned, prompted,
no doubt, by the action of the Life
Guardsmen, who cut their saddles and
rendered them useless, and this morning
it was found that some time during the
night the harnesses belonging tothe
horses of the Thirteenth Company had
been so badly cut that they were worth-
less. TOday the‘members of the com-
pany are confined in their barracks. The
military authorities are inquiring into
the case. -

tary conference to be held in Brussels On
November 22, the report says that 'th'e

agree upon the attitude they will adopt.
