He Went to Thrash Lieutenant Trochu
and Got Whipped Himself.
PARIS, Sept. 2—Captain Cremieux F08,
the Hebrew captain who was thrashed and
beaten by Lieutenant Trochu and his fel-
low oflicers, when he went to chastise
Trochu for his failure to fight a duel, says
that he will challenge every emcer engaged
in the aflair. When Captain Foa proposed
to fight the Marquis de Mares after de
Moves had killed Captain Mayer, another
Hebrew oficer, Lieutenant Trochu was to
have acted as second to Foa. It was stated
at the time that the duel was prevented by
Captain For: being ordered by the govern—
ment to proceed on a mission to Algeria. In
the recent trial of the Marquis de Mores for
killing Mayer Lieutenant Trochu made
some statements that ofiended Captain Foa,
who sent a challenge to Trochu.
Lieutenant Trochu’s colonel forbade the
duel, and Fan hearing of this, went to the of
floors’ mess Wednesday night and, it is said,
threw a glove in the face of Lieutenant
'I‘rochu. Lieutenant Trochu makes‘a state-
ment to-day to the efi'ect that the door of
the messroom suddenly opened and Cary
tain Foo entered, shouting, “I’ll box your
can!” The lieutenant seized a stick and
beat the captain, and kicked him at the
some time. Other omcers present threw
bottles and other missiles at Fee, and a
decanter struck him on the temple, inflict-
inga slight injury. Then the captain was
thrown out of the room. Afterward both
Lieutenant Trochu and Captain Foa were
taken before the public prosecutor. Tho
affair has caused considerable sensation as
showing the strength of the anti-Jewish
spirit in the ermv.
No Cholera in Mexico.
'CITY OF MEXICO, Sept. 2.—It is stated by
Dr. Liceaga, president of the national board
of health, that there is not a'single case of
cholera in Mexico. The coast frontiers,
however, are being closely watched.
Two Deaths in New York.
NEW YORK, Sept. 2.—It is reported that
two persons have died of Asiatic cholera. on
Washington street, this city.~ The report
is being investigated.

ative to the muzzling of dogs to be rigidly
enforced on and after next Wednesday, Aug
3181:, at 10 a. In. And shall further cause every
person who does not comply With _the follow-
ing provision of the statute, being section
3753. .
"Every owner. keeper or harborer oi any
dog shall kill said dog or muzzle the same to
the acceptance of the Selectmen ot the town
wherein such dog is owned or kept, from the
first day of May in each year, until such t1me
as said Selectmen shall order said muzzle re-
moved. Any person Violating this section
seven dollars,
or imprisoned not more than thirty days or
both—to be prosecuted, as we have not order-
ed any muzzles removed. and do now fix upon
October 1st next as the day upon which said
muzzles ma be removed.”
