known negro were safely landed in jail in
Brunswick on a charge of murdering Ike
Flower, at Jessup, four weeks ago. The
prisoners were arrested in Jessup, the ar-
rest provoking so muchiexcitement that the
Wayne Light infantry was called out to
guard them. A serious riot was narrowly
averted. " .

The N orwalk Iron Works Band went
to New Canaan last evening to rehearse
with the new band just started there.
After the rehearsal the South Nor-walk
boys were. given a supper and had a

A reunion and picnic of Company I,
tenth Conn. Volunteers, was held at
Round Island yesterday. Justice and
Mrs. D. P. Morrell of this place attend-
ed. Mr. Morrell was first sergeant in
this regiment during the war.
The evenings during the present
week have not :proved very favorable
ber of which were set down for this
week. Glover’s band is about the only
party who have been fortunate enoug
to have pleasant weather.
During the shower last night the
houseof Olin Youngs, opposite A. G.
Judson’s residence on Quintard avenue
was struck by lightning. Mrs. Youngs
received quite a severe shock, but be-
yond this no damage was done except
that to the house. “Jud” says he
thought they were after him about the
time the shock came. .
The employees of Lounsbury, Mat-
thewson & CO.’s shoe factory intended
havinga moonlight sail on the Sound
last evening, but owing to the incle-
ment weather, they took the Jessie B,
and went only as far as Boton Point,
where they remained until about one
o’clock, dancing and otherwise enjoy-
ing themselves. Despite the storm,
they all declare they had a fine time.

Gould’s flour, feed and cider mill, in
Easton, was struck by lightning on
Tuesday evening, and burned to the
ground, together With the contents.
t was owned by Burton P. Merwin, of
this town, who estimates his loss at
$5,000. It was insured for 32,000.
David S. Hurlbutt, of this town, has
been engaged as principal of the Hurl-
butt Street school, Wilton, for the next
year.
