George W. Stamper, Jr., exploded, killing

was today appointed receiver for the (1::-
sino company by Judge Lawrence of the
suprcmoccurt On application of thoAmer-
loan Exchange National bank, which re-
covered 11. judgment against the company
for $10,565.78 in October last. Under a
recent decision of the court of common
pleas it was held that the company has
.an interest in a lease of the theater prop—
erty at Thirty-ninth street and Brood—
way.
Catarina Gnrza Again.
SAN ANTONIO, Tex, Nov. lit—Advices
from ‘Palo Blanco, Torn, say that Mrs.
Cnt-arino Garza, wife of the Mexican rev-
olutionist leader who creatcd such a dis-
turbance on the lower Rio Grande border
a few years ago, has just received a letter
from her husband. According to the in-
formation contained in this letter, Garza
is very much alive and is taking a leading
part in the Cuban revolution.
A Big Paper Mill For Sault Ste. lilarie.
APPLETON, Wis, Nov. lit—The largest
paper mill in the world will be erected at
Sault Ste. Marie within a short time. It
will be built by the Sault Ste. Marie Pulp
and Paper company, of which F. H.
Clerquo is president. The Cramps, the
Philadelphia shipbuilders, are the leading
stockholders.
Governor Matthews’ Great Affliction.
CLINTON, Ind., Nov. 19.-—Governor Mat-
thews has just buried his only son in the
family lot near the old homestead. There
were present Senators Turpie and Voor-
bees, 'all the state officials, members of
the supreme court and 4,000 people. A
special train from Indianapolis brought
200 people.

Madison, who is charged with attempting
to swindle a widow to whom ho was en
gagod. is believed to be James Duprcy,
alias Dewitt, Wanted in Elmira for felony
and in Binghumton, where the police call
Duprey a dangerous all around criminal.
Steamer Manitoba Ashore.
BEACH HAVEN, N. J., Nov. 19.—The
British steamer Manitoba, from Rio Ja-
neiro for New York, is ashore near this
place. The Manitoba is a. screw steamer
of 1,386 not tons register, built at West
Hartlcpool, England, in 1887. ~

OCALA, Fla, Nov. 19.—Thore has been
trouble for some time between white‘ and
negro laborers at Moss Bluff. Whites sur-
cabins in which the negrocs were sleep-
ing. Three were killed and several
wounded. The whitel resented the im-
portation of nogroes by contractors.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19.—Tho United
States supreme court, in an opinion by
the Union Pacific Railroad company had
no right to make a lease practically giving
the Western Union Telegraph company an
exclusive right to maintain telegraph

Died From the Prick of a Pin,
BLOOMFIELD, N. J., Nov. 9.—-Mrs. C.
T. Alcott died in the Mountainside hospi-
tal. Several weeks ago she accidentally
ran a pin into one of her fingers, A few
days later alarming symptoms developed,
and Mrs. Alcott entered the hospital. Fi-
nally tetanus set in, causing death.

that the negotiations with the principal
powers interested in the abolition of the
sugar bounties will not be interrupted,
even should the proposed new sugar bill

Brigandn Attack a Convent.
ROME, Nov. 19.—A bend of brigands
attacked a convent at Viterbo, but Were
successfully resisted by 20 monks,- who,
armed with muskets, compelled the brig-
ands' to retreat, leaving several of their
number wounded.
