pany’s mill has been declared off, the men
notifying the firm of their willingness to
return at the company’s 'terms. They
have been out for four months demanding
recognition of the Amalgamated associa-

Alleged English Forger Arrested.
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 25.——A1bert Du-
ley, alias Ford, alias Sutton, of Birming-
ham, England, was arrested here today on
a warrant sworn out by the British consul
at New York, charging him with forgery,
and after a hearing be was committed to
prison to await the action of the New
York authorities.

Murdered by His Crew.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 25.—Thc schooner
'John A. Dixon, loaded with lumber, was
found drifting about near Cedar point by
a river steamer, with the body of the skip-
per on board. It is believed that he was
murdered and robbed by his crew, and
caped to the shore.

Stabbed His Wife and Son.
NEW YORK, Sept. 25.-—-Thomas Mc-
Gowan, 50 years old, of 228 East One
Hundred and Eighth street, during an al-
tercation today stabbed his wife Jane, 46
years old, in the head and his’20-year-old
son Thomas in the _buck and left arm
with a pocketknife. They were not seri-
ously hurt. McGowan was arrested.

Yellow 'Fevei- on a. Bark. .
PENSACOLA, Fla., Sept. 25.-—The Nor-
wegian bark Ida W, from Pernambuco,
has arrived. Her bill of health shows
that there had been 30 cases of yellow
fever, with 15 deaths, and 154 cases of
smallpox, with three deaths, at Pernam-
buco. Her captain reports he lost one
man from yellow fever on Sept. 3, and
there had been no sickness on board since
then. _ , ’

The Conflict In Formosa.
ST. PETERSBURG, Sept. 26.—The Novoe
Vreln‘yn states that the Japanese captured
Chan 3- Who. and Taiwan-Fu from the For-
mosan rebels after severe fighting. The
Japanese were marching on Anping, where
the rebels concentrated. The Japanese
army in Formosa, Which numbers 60,000
men, will have to be re-cnforced, as the
troops are worn out by the hardships of
the campaign.
Mrs. Tompkins Found.
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 26,—Mrs. Eliza
both E. Tompkins, the eastern turf writer
who mysteriously disappeared from Chi~
cage two years ago, has been found in this
city. She is at present with Norman
Brough, the ofiicial handicapper for the
California Jockey club. She came to this
city with him from Saratoga in 1892.
