NEW YORK, June 10.-—A suit for about
$2,000,000 against the estate" of Commo-
dore Vanderbilt will be begun shortly by
William H. A. Brown, a son of a business
associate of the founder of the Vanderbilt
fortune. The transaction upon which the
suit is based is more than 40 years old.
The first step in the legal proceedings
will be taken tomorrow, when Lawyer
William H. Handel will apply to the sur-
rogate for letters of administration in be
half of Mr. Brown in order that it may be
determined what interest his father, the
late William A. Brown, had in the estate
of Commodore Vanderbilt. .
Among the defendants are the late Wil—
liam H. Vanderbilt, Cornelius Vanderbilt,

Garden was packed at the benefit for ex-

pugilists who took part in the evening’s
entertainment were Jim Corbett, Bob Fitz-
simmons, John L. Sullivan, Peter Maher,
George Dixon, Joe Choynski, Steve O’Don-
nell, Tommy Ryan, Joe Lannen, Jimmy.
Barry, Jimmy Handler, Mick Dunn, Jack
McAuliffe and other celebrities.
When the World’s heavyweight cham-
pion, James J. Corbett, made his appear-
ance he was greeted with thunders of ap-
plause. He sparrcd three rounds with John
McVey of Philadelphia. His every move.
ment was watched with the keenest inter-
est by thc Sports, as he has begun training
at Asbury Park, ’N‘. J., for his coming fight
with Bob Fitzsimomns.
“Lanky” Bob, as Fitz is familiarly call-
ed, was the next to appear in the ring, and
his reception was just as hearty as that
given to Corbett. Fitz sparred three rounds
with Frank Boswerth, and he left no
doubt in the minds of those who saw his
quick work in the ring hat he has not
gone back anything and will rendera good
account of himself when he meets the
champion. -
The last bout of the night was between
John L. Sullivan and the beneficiary, Jack
Dempsey. When the cur-champion appear-
