“Bud” Man and His Five Prom-
ising Sons Arrested.
CUBA, Mo, April 2.—The greatest ex-
citement prevails throughout the southern
and western portions of Crawford county
on account of the arrest of Alex M. Green
and his five sons and their confinement in
the Crawford county jail for the murder
of David Hilderbrand on Wednesday night
last about ten miles southwest of Cuba.
Officers of the county are still making
every effort to bring to justice the perpe
trators of the foul murder. The body has
been exhumed and will be examined as
. far as it is possible to-do in its terribly
charred condition. A bloody ax handle
and clothing have been found upon tht
premises of the Greens and other evidence
or a. most damaging character. Consider
ing the feeling existing between the accus
ed, the father and brothers-in-law of th
murdered man, the divorce proceedings
between the accused and his wife and th‘
bad reputation of the accused, it is the
sentiment of the general public that the
guilty parties are now in jail.

Another Stay For the Big Four.
. NEW YORK, April 2.-The cases oi
County Clerk Dennis McLoughlin, John
M. Crusius, Gottfried Walbaum and John
E. Carr, the Big Four of Guttenbcrg race
track fame. were up before the supreme
court in Jersey City today. Justices
Dixon, Magic and Lippincott were on the
bench. The stay previously secured pend-
ing an appeal to the court of errors ex-
pired today. Lawyer Mchrmott succeeded
in securing another stay in the case until
May 18. '

PHILADELPHIA, April 2.-—-Oharles‘ F.
Warwick, the newly elected may of this
city, was installed in office today. The
ceremony took place in the common coun-
cil chamber, and was preceded by the or-
ganization of both branches of councils.
Mr. Warwick and Edwin S. Stuart. the
outgoing mayor, were met by the inau-
gural committee of councils in the mayor’s
office and were escorted to the chamber
where the inauguration was held.
. General Gooding Declared Insane.
WASHINGTON, April 2.-A jury im‘
paneled by Marshal Wilson of the Dis.
trict of Columbia to inquire into the can
ity of General Oliver P. Gooding, after a
hearing today, pronounced him insane.
He will be taken into custody and con-
fined at St. Elizabeth. General Gooding
is a. West Point graduate and went into
the war as a. colonel of a. Massachusetts
regiment, rising to the rank of brigadiel
general.
Prentiss Goes to Shiloh.
ST. JOSEPH, M0,, April 2.-—-.Gcneral A.
M. Prentiss, one of the two surviving gen-
erals who took part in the battle of Shiloh,
loft today for the battlefield to be present at
the unveiling of the monument on April
5. General Prentiss will be the only one
of the surviving generals present on thia
occasion.

was found dead in bed at his home here
today. He was born at Amherst, Mass,
in 1815. He was twice mayor of Boches

age 22, a. domestic in the employ of Henry
Harteau of 554 Washington avenue, this
city, was smothered by smoke from a
slight fire in the house. After the blaze

States supreme court did not decide the
income tax case. The only opinion of im-
portance read was one denying an applica-
tion made in behalf of August Bergmann,
