The speed of trains running over the
new tracks on the Coscob bridge has
been limited to ten miles an hour and
engineers have been notified that they
must not exceed that rate.
The Selectmen expect. 1;) :have Con-
stable Ireland remove the insane Hun-
garian, Budrs, to the Middletowu asy-
lum, to-morrow. He is still confined
at the station house in this city.
Herbert H. Atherton, 9. Consolidated
railroad conductor at Bridgeport, has
been placed under a bond to support
his wife. She says he has given her
only five dollars in several months.
The Red Men will rehearse the Adop-
tion degree to-nig‘nt and work it to-
morrow night on six pale faces.
Wednesday night they go to Bridge—

The chart for the Yoerger-Johnson
Athletic entertainment at Music Hall,
Thursday night, opened this morning.
Considerable kicking is being done
over the fact that a number of the best

Dick Bland, driver for Lawton, was
thrown from his delivery wagon on
East avenue Saturday, and considerably
scrached and bruised. The horse ran
scattering vegetables, eggs etc. along
the avenue, but was captured by a bi-
cyclist before much damage was done.
A spark from 9. locomotive set fire to
the roof of a house on Railroad avenue,
Stamford, Saturday morning. An
alarm was sent in and the fire depart-
ment quickly responded. Little dam-
age was done as a few ipails of water
extinguished the flames.
The freight trainmen of the Consoli-
dated Road have received instructions
that in making up freight trains all
cars containing oil or other inflamma-
ble material are to be placed in the
center of the train, as far away
possible.
Carlton Cornwall, foreman of the Guam,
Middletown, N. J., believes that Chamber-

The dispatch sent out by the Nor-
walk fakir of the buying of the Stam-
ford Irolley road by the- Consolidated,
s believed to be another fake. Mr.
George Mansfield, the treasurer of the
road has not been in the United States
in nearly two weeks, and the officers of
the Tramway company have not heard
of such a halo. As Mr. McKibbin is
it is more than likely that he would
have heard of the sale.
A freight brakeman on the Consoli-
dated, named Robinson, has given him-
upon a charge of murder. The crime
is said to have been committed in Penn—
sylvauia some time ago, and Robinson
recently moved with his family to Con-
necticut from that state. He learned
that he was charged with the crime so
gave himself up. Robinson claims that
he is innocent of the charge and will
endeavor to prove it. I
Late Monday night Captain Cycles
grove discovered the door ‘of Hugh
Campbell’s saloon on Railroad Place
open. An investigation revealed the
fact that the place had been entered
and a quantity of liquors and cigars
stolen. Captain Colegrove did some
valuable detective work which he I'm-
parted to Chief Vollmcr with the result
that the Chief, this morning, arrested
Richard Haulou and locked him up.
Hanlon’ when taken to headquarters
made a full confession of the burglary.
Trying to Oust Addicks.
WILMINGTON, Del, April 1.—Tho offi-
cials of the Bay State Gas company have
been ordered by the United States court to
appear April :45 and gshow cause Why a re-
ceiver should not be appointed for the com-
pany. The action was taken in the suit of
McDonald against the company. Presi-
dent Addicks is among the ofllcers sub-
poenaed to'appear before the examiner and
give testimony. A bill in equity has been
filed by the plaintiff. backed by a large
number of affidavits. which allege fraudu-
lent wasto of the property of the company
and an attempt to irregularly continue the
present Addicks management.
A hIinister Charged With Libel.
DETROIT, April 1.-Rev. Donald D.
MacLaurin, pastor of the Woodward Bap-
tist church and acting president of the De-
troit Civic federation, is to be arrested for
libel on complaint of J ohn B. Tongan, an
unsuccessful candidate for the Republican
nomination for police justice. Dr. Mac-
Lauriu‘, from the pulpit. declared that the
election of Tongan as police justice would
be a calamity to the police.

the charge of embezzling $10,000 from the
estate of his father. held in trust for his

charged on the ground that he was indict-
ed for "the same offense in 1890, when the
case was nolle prosquicd.
