The case of Ralph Simone and
Michael O’Brien, charged with selling
liquor on Sunday at their house on
Center street, was resumed before ~Jus-
tice Smith, this morning. O’Brien was
discharged for want of evidence and
Simone was fined $15 and costs.
Chief of Police Vollmer and Detective
G. Washington Gladstone drove to the
home of Garret Jordan on the Turn-
pike, yesterday afternoon, and arrest-
ed him for breach of the peace. He
was found guilty and fined $1 and costs
by Justice Smith, this morning.
The remains of the late James Ander-
son were sent to Philadelphia, yester-
day. The deceased was a member of
the Hat Makers’ association, which as-
sociation'did all in their power for his
benefit during his sickness and provid-
ed an expensive casket for the repose
of his body, after his death.
Landlord Walz, of the Mahackemo,
came running down stairs this morn-
ing and rushing into the cafe exclaimed,
“set them up quick, Billy, it’s a. girl
and weighs 14 pounds”! Billy was draw-
ing a glass of amber fluid at the time
and his astonishment was so great that
he dropped the glass. ' It is safe to say
that everything is free at the Mahack—
emo to-day. We are pleased to an—
nounce that mother and daughter are
doing nicely, ,
About seventy members of the Ep-
worth League of the East avenue M.
E. church, met at 7.00 o’cldck last
evening, on Riverside avenue, and
boarded the Tramway car for Roway-
ton. A committee of four young men
of the Rowayton League met and er-
corted the East Norwalk League to the
Methodist church. It was a return
visit, and alter a religious hour of ser-
vice and song was spent, the visitors
were invited to the lecture room, where
a bountiful lunch was served. All ex-

met in conference, and after much discus-
sion adopted rules and regulations relative
to the future handling of cotton, agreeing
on amount to be charged for recompress-
ing and with reference to engagements for
future dclievry.
Safe Robbers’ Rich Haul.
SAN DIEGO, Cal, March 23.-—-Unkn_own
robbers blew open a safe at Enscnada,
Lower California, and secured a gold bar
valued at $13, 000 and $2,000 in currency.
The gold bar had been placed in charge of
Don Manul Riverol for shipment to this
city. Dynamite was used to blow the safe.
