A German slipped upon a piece of

sistance and the German took the train

The slander case of Chris. Larsen vs.
Mrs. Sarah Raymond is being heard at
Darien to-day. Larsen claims that
Mrs. Raymond told several parties that
he set fire to his building, which was
burned recently.
- Mary M. Radloff, widow of the late
Henry Schaub, died in East Norwalk
yesterday, aged 32 years. The funeral
will be attended from the residence of
August W. Wolf, No. 33 East avenue,
Thursday afternoon, at 2 o’clock.
John F. Louth, a brakeman employed
.by the Consolidated railroad, fell under
the" wheels of a freight train at New
Haven, last night, and had his right
arm crushed at the elbow. He was
taken to the hospital and his arm ampu-
tated.
Mrs. George A. Jennings entertained
the Chautauqua Union at her home on
West street, last evening. The subject
was “English Poets,” and a number of

Joseph Sobore and John Buckdock
were in Steve Bolster’s saloon in Whis-
tleville yesterday afternoon, both pretty
well under the influence.- They soon
became involved in a quarrel with the
result 'that Sobore stabbed Buckdock
in the shoulder with a knife. The
wounded man bled profusely and was
trken to the oflice of Dr. Clarke on
South Main street where his wound was
dressed, after which he was removed
to the hospital. Sobore was arrested
and locked up and this morning Justice
Smith continued the case until to mo;-
rbw. Buckdock’s wound wasa severe
one, but he is reported at the hospital
as doing nicely to-day.
At the council meeting, last evening,
Mayor Lee presided with all the coun—
cilmen present. The usual bills
were ordered paid and the clerks min-
utes of the last meeting approved. A
petition for the widening of Washington
street was presented and referred to
the committee on streets as was a peti-
