Artist Washburn has painted a hand-
some new scene for Hoyt.’s Opera
House. It was placed in position this

At the meeting of the council on
Monday night the question of furnish-
ing uniforms for the fire department
did not come up.
Mrs. C. H. Rider and Mrs. Richard
L’Hommedieu, of Rowayton, are visit-
ing Mrs. C. L. Ainsworth on Cottage
avenue, East Norwalk.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas I. Raymond
left, this morning, on a trip to Boston.
They will stop 011‘ at Hartford and visit
the Legislature on their way.
The County Commissioners are at

A. D. Hazzard, Jr. formerly em-
ployed by R. H. Golden in the manu-
facture of ankle supporters, has ac-
cepted a position with Flynn & Dudley.
Ground was broken, yesterday, for
the new east bound depot of the Con-
solidated railroad. It will be located
directly opposite the new west bound
station.
Edward Finney, the boarder at Sarah
Larrigan’s, whose trousers, watch and
pocket book were stolen Saturday
night, has recovered his watch from a
fellow boarder.
The hearing in the condemnation of
property east of the depot owned by l).
P. Ely, was commenced in 001. Frost’s
oflice, yesterday, before Tallmadge
Baker E. 0. Bishop and C. .W: Butler,
the committee appointed by Judge
Ralph Wheeler. Mr. Ely considers
the damages will be $4,000.
Miss Ethel Keep entertained the Q.
A. club at her home on Fairfield ave-
nue, last evening. Whist was the order
of the evening and four tables were
occupied. After the games a lunch
was served by the hostess. The ladies’
prize was won by Miss Helen Swartz
and the gentleman’s by Charles Swartz.
The lucky winners of the booby prizes
were Miss Blair Smith and Louis Leo-
nard.
This morning at ten o’clock Theodore
Knapp, who is attending his sick
brother J udgeKnapp,a-t the Mahackemo
threw a four ounce glass bottle from
the window expecting that it would
strike upon the. railroad tracks. ' In its
descent, however, it struck a telegraph
wire and bounding back towards the
sidewalk struck an Italian named Rafl'o
Samonn on the head, crushing his hat
and inflicting a scalp wound some two
inches long. The injured man was
taken into Tomlinson’s drug store and
the wound dressed.

1n concluding our report we can only repeat
what we have often said Of the necessity of a
larger snpply, both of Water Storage and the
main pipe, and if our citizens do not see the
necessity of appropriating the amount of
money needed to increase the storage capaci-
ty and supply, we must at times, be ”out of
water" until something is done, to enlarge our
works, meanwhile our only relief is to .pur—
chase water, as we may need, from the city of
South Norwalk.
