John Ryan appeared before Justice
Barrett, this morning charged With
stealing a ride on a freight train.
John spenta night in the lockup and
will spend his Christmas as a guest of

The funeral of the late George B.
Plalsted was held privately from his
mother’s residence, at 3 o’clock this
afternoon. In the absence of the Rev.
Hallock the Episcopal funeral service
was read by Rev. 'G. H. Beard of the
Congregational church. The interment
was at Biverstde cemetery. .
The marriage of Miss Annie Shurrot,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M, J. Shar-
rot, of Union street, and Frank Simon,
takes place at the residence of the
bride’s. parents to-‘morrow evening.
Shortly after the ceremony Mr. and
Mrs. Simon will start for Colorado, for
the benefit of Mr. Simon’s health.
An Italian was caught between train
103 and a freight near Riverside, yes-
terday morning, and was rolled about
like a ball. His body came in contact
With one of the steps on the passenger
train with sufficient force to break the
step ofi‘._ The train was stopped and
the Italian picked up and carried to
the baggage room where he soon came
to himself and walked ofi‘.

ROCHESTER, Dec. 15.——At the thirteenth
annual meeting of the New York State
Sheep Breeders and Woolgrowers’ associa-
tion the following officers were elected:
John S. Beecher, Livonia, president; Dan-
iel K. Bell, Brighton, vice president; J ohii
P. Roy, Hemlock Lake, secretary and
treasurer.
Garvey Gets One Year.
NEW YORK, Dec. 15.—Judge Fitzgerald,
when John Garvey was brought into court,
part two, general sessions today, heard Gar—
vey’s lawyer on a. motion to discharge the
prisoner. He decided against Lawyer Stay-
ton and sentenced Garvey to one year in
the penitentiary, the full limit for his of-
fense. . .
Yachting Afl'airs at a Standstill.
NEW YORK, Dec. 15.—Therc was no
meeting of the America’s cup committee
today. Fix-Commodore Smith was out of
town, and none of the other members of
the committee put in an appearance. The
next meeting of the committee will take
place on Monday next at noon.
‘ Suicide of Mine Owncr‘Dclnney.
DEADWOOD, S. D., Doc. 15.—Joh’n De-
laney, owner of several large gold mines
in- the Bald mountain mining district and
one of the oldest residents of the Black
Hills. committed suicide by hanging. Fi—
nancial trouble is supposed to be the cause.
Girl \leo Shot Latimer Arrested.
LYNN, Mass, Dec. 15.———Miss Annie
Maud Brewer, who shot her former lover,
C. W. Latimer, was arrested in the room
of William Spinney, a, painter. Latimer is
still alive, but there is no hope of his re-
covery.
Trouble In India.
BOMBAY, Dec. 15.—A dispatch from
Kajurikuch says that the Mahsud Waziris
have finally refused the terms of the In
(lieu government, and that a punitive ex-
pedition against them is inevitable.
