George Norvell, the well known stair
builder,died at his home on West street,
this morning, in the 62d year of his age.
His wife and two children survive him.
Conductor Allen of the Street Rail-
.way slipped on the side Of an open
trolley car yesterday, and was thrown
to the ground,sustaining several severe
bruises.
The cases of Schaub. Chichester and
Guyer charged with selling meat on
Sunday, will be heard before Justice of
the peace Keeler, this evening. The
hearing Wlll be held in J. A. Gray’s
office up town.
The City of Albany will be raised to-
day and an inspection made of . her
damaged .. machinery. It is reported
that the insurance companies are make-
ing an investigation into the cause of
the recent fire which destroyed her.
- The condition of William W. Gilbert,
who lost his hand by falling beneath a
train at the New England station, Sat-
urday, and who is now in the hospital,
remains about the same. He is suffer-
ing from the shock and will undoubted-
ly recover it no other troubles set in.
It will be some time before he can be
igleased from the hospitaL—Danbury
ews. ~
There is war in the company which
played “McKenna’s Flirtation” at
Music "Hall last Saturday night. Mon-
day night while the company was play-
ing at New Haven, Manager Shaw and
“Billy” ' Williams got into a dispute
over a dressing room, and Shaw knock-
ed Williams down with a heavy cane,
cutting his eye and severing an artery.
He then had Williams arrested and
locked up. The trouble has now been
taken up by the company and a monkey
and parrot time is in progress.
The semi-annual county convention
of the Women’s Christian Temperance
Union was held yesterday in the Bap-
tist church. but owing to the weather
the attendance was small. Mrs. E.
Palmer Of Stamford, president, occu-
pied the chair. Thirty delegates were
present, including three Officers, and
representatives of seven out Of 13 un-
ions. The delegates were welcomed
by Mrs. R. O. Sherwood, president of
the South Norwalk Union, in behalf Of
the ladies’ union while the Rev. B. O.
Sherwood welcomed them in behalf of
the church. The report of the treaiE
urer showed a balance in the treasury .
of $20,66. Mrs. M. E. Hayes of Dan-
bury was elected a delegate to the
national convention, A number of pa-
pers on the subject in the interest of
Christian work were read and discussed.
