Annual Meeting.
Notice is hereby given that the Annual
Meeting of the City of. Norwalk, will be held
in the building occupied by the Hope Hose
Fire Co. on Water street, in said city, on Mon-
; day, October lst, 1894, at which time and place
here shall be chosen by the qualified voters
of said city from among them number, by a
plurality of ballots, a mayor, a city treasurer,
'a’collectbr, an auditor, a city sherifi". six coun-
cilmen. two members, of the board oftregistra-
tion, two inspectors of elections, one water
commissioner, and a treasurer of the water
fund; and that for such purpose the polls will
remain open at said time and place, from six
o’clock in the forenoon until five o’clock after-
noon.

Deputy Sheriff Toner arrested Martin
Sullivan, this morning, for an assault
on Michael Heel. He was fined 32 and
costs which he paid.
The Fairfi'eld County Savings Bank

rate of four per cent. for the current
six months, on and after October 10.

William Davis lies at the point of
death' at his home on Water street.
Drs. McGonegal and Huntington per-
formed an operation on him recently,

A town meeting is being held at the
town house this afternoon, to consider
the matter of building a bridge across
the creek on Day street, this city.
Harry Howard was arrested for in-
toxication last evening while on his
way to attend the temperance meeting
in Hoyt’s Opera House. This morn:
ingt Justice Barrett fined him 81 and
cos s.
Henry Clark was fined 32 and costs
by Justice Barrett this morning, for in-
toxication, and ordered locked up until
he became sober. When ofiicer Glad-
stone attempted to place him 1n a cell
was soon lucated behind the bars.
Rev. Mr. Beard stated at the No
License meeting at Hoy’t Opera House
last night, that he had received a letter
from Rev. S. H. Watkins, now absent
on his vacation, bidding the friends of
saloon reform God-speed and express-
his earnest approval of- and interest in
tag the movement for no license 1n this

Wilton, where the funeral was held this

- The voters of this citw will be given
a chance, on Monday next, to approve
or disapprove by their ballotts of the
proposition that the city furnish electri-
city for commercial purposes. The
ballots for this proposition must not be
placed 1n the official envelopes, but de-
posited, uninclosed,’ in a separate box ;
provided for the purpose.
Shortly after four o’clock yesterday
afternoon, John MacQuhae was caught '
between two approaching trolley cars
in the Hollow. Both motormen sound-
ed their gongs at the same time which
confused Mr. MacQuhae, who 1s quite
aged, and he started to cross the track
in front of the up car, but owing to the
coolness of Motorman Matheis who
stopped his car and shouted to Mr.
MacQuhae to go back, what might
have been a serious accident was
averted.
It was reported about the city this
morning that John Comstock, a well
known character, had disappeared.
From facts gathered it turns out that
John became under the Influence and
his friends, to get him out of the way
until sober, placed him in an empt
freight car standing on a side track near
the depot. Soon after John was sound-
ly snorIng and did not ‘wake up when a .
train backed up and coupled on to his
car and drew out of the station. Where
John has been taken to is not known,
and his friends have instituted a search
for that freight car hoping to find him 2
and get him home In time for election.
