had come “‘on time” this year. The
dredgers on the natural oyster-beds
are compelled to stay-in port, but so
far the storm is not strong enough to
injure the seed oysters at any depth.
The new telephone exchange has
made arrangements -with Mr. C. G.
Mead, manager of the Bidgefield‘ ex-
change, to canvas Norwalk for the new
telephone. Mr. Mead is at present run~
ning a similar system to the one it: is
proposed to organize in town, and is
fully posted in regard to telephone
gutters. He will commence work to-
ay.
Sheriff Toner was in Rowayton Mon-
day, and attached the interest of Mrs.
Fannie L. Vanderbilt, of Westport, in
the estate of her father, the late Col.

spent thousands of dollars searching for
her husband and finally located him in
Japan. She sent her agent, Samuel Boyd,
for her husband, and they returned to San
Francisco. Here they were met by Dr.
Tallman, who endeavored to regain pos~
session or Byers. Finally, on July 80,
1894, an agreement was signed by all
parties to the effect that Byers should re-.
turn to Pittsburg without any interfer-
ence in the custody of Boyd. At St. Jo-
seph Byers was taken from the train on a
writ of habeas corpus, but at the hearing
was remanded into Boyd’s custody. A
few hours later, Mrs. Byers alleges, H. B.
Shields, Peter L. Kennedy, John Davis
and Dr. Tallman ggain kidnaped Byers
and took him to Chicago, where trace of
him was lost. A few days a 0 Mrs. Byers
found her husband in the §>ennsylvania
Hospital For the Insane at Philadelphia.
He is now under her care.
