who caught it in the nick of time and

the \Vellman expedition tolegraphs from
Tromsoe that the Ragnvald J arl, the
steamship which conveyed the Wellman
explorers to the edge of the ice pack, was
crushed in the ice on May 24 in latitude
80.37 andvlongitudc'las’i’i'.
‘ Captain Bottolfscn, Winship, Heyes-
dam], W astraldt and Hovde undertook to
journey over the ice, taking with them
aluminum boats, in the hope of finding
a scaling ship to convey them to Norway.
They met the sealer Malygen, Captain
Pedcrscn, on July 24, at Rodeborg after
traveling 230 miles over the ice and in-
curring countless risks andondless suffer-
ing. Captain Bottolfsen‘ is now fitting
out a ship to go to the assistance of Well-
man and his companions, who on June
17 last were six miles east of Cape Platen.
It is added that liycrvohl, the ski run-
ner, is on Danes island with Professor
Oyen. .
