Captain Joe. Lockwood has con-
structed a new bathing float at the
Knob for the children, and has placed
it in position ready for use.
Miss Lillian Matthers, who has been
visiting her sister, Mrs. N. C. Becker,
on South Main street, leaves for her
home in New York city on Monday.
Gilbert W. Wells, of Whistleville, is
sporting a pair of black eyes to-day the
result of a misunderstanding he had
with Stephen Farrington last night.
Justice Barrett yesterday afternoon
presented Danbur Jack with sixty
days in jail and a ne of $7 and costs,
which le keep him housed foi' some
three months.
The trolley cars were delayed at six
o’clock last evening by a large boulder
rolling on the track on the Wilson
Point road. It required the services
of four horses to remove it.
In an interview with a GAZETTE re-
porter Chief Vollmer stated that if
Sherifi' Clarkson desired another term
he would do all in his power to help
his reuomination. er. Clarkson is
out of the race the chief may take a
hand in it himself.
Two brakemen on the 11 o’clock down
Pittslield freight were knocked from
the top of a box car onto a flat our last
night, by an overhanging wire break-
ing away from the pole and dropping
down across the tracks. Neither of
them were badly hurt although one is
said to have received a bad out under
the ear.

widen and straighten the Baton Hill road,pro-
vided land shall be donated for that purpose

cate the bridge over its railroad, on the high-
way so widened and straightened;~ and to ap-
propriate the sum of $750 therefor. Also to
instruct said Selectmen to take such action as
they may deem necessary, to widen to a suit‘
”able width. and to repair the highway between
the Five Mile River bridge and theIresidence
of W. H. Mosher; ind the highway from the
Baptist church northerly, to said Five Mile
liiver bridge; and to make the necessary ap
p'ropriation therefor. '
