‘WRECKED BY A BROKEN AXLE.

Serious Accident to a. Goal Train—Possible
Loss of Life.

LANCASTER, Pa. Aug. 2.—A broken
axle on a train composed almost entirely
of coal cars caused a bad wreck on the
Pennsylvania railroad nt Pomeroy, 25
miles east of this city. Eighteen loaded
coal cars were buried from the track, and
their contents, aggregating 400 tons of
coal, were scattered in every direction,
blocking all tracks and tearing up the
rails. The debris was not cleared away
until this afternoon. Charles Dingoes,
whose home is in Egglcston, Va, andIVVil-
liam Field of Pittsburg, who was stealing
a ride, were hurled from the cars and
badly hurt. Miles Fraiikford, brakeman,
of Columbia, Pa, also was seriously in-
jured. Field and DingoeS'say that four
young men boarded the train just east .of
this city, and as they have not, been seen
there are fears that the bodies may be. uii-.
der the heaps of coal piled along the track.

Bob Ford's Slayer Seeks Pardon.

DENX;ER,Aug. 2.——ls‘ldivnrd O’Kelly, who
is serving a life sentence in the peniten-
tiary for the murder of Bob Ford, slayer
of Jesse, James, at Creodc, has applied for
a part i. As justification for the crime
he says: “The killing of the man was the
outcome of previous trouble. At the time
of the killing he made a movement for his
gun, and thinking he was going to kill
me I shot him.”

A Railroad to Be Sold.
AKRON, 0., Aug. 2.——Thc sale of the
Pittsburg, Akron and Western railroad
under proceedings of foreclosure of a mort-
gage of $8,600,000 held by the Central
Trust company of New York will be made
at public auction about tho'lst of October
under a decree of court agreed to by all
interested parties. Sheriff Williai’iis of
this county will be. master commissioner.
