Water at the Knob to-day. 73 degrees-
Prosecuting Agent Honnecker has
withdrawn the seizure complaint
against Charles Elzea.
Trinity Church Sunday School will
picnic at Roton Point to-morrow, go-
ing down in three trolley cars.
One of Dr. Bohannan’s valuable dogs
was run over and killed by a trolley car
on South Main street, last evening.
The trolley cars carried a picnic party
of fifty from Grand Army hall on Wash-
ington street, to‘ Roton Point this morn-
ing.
Major C. W. Hendrie, of Stamford,
jcr has entirely recovered from his re-
cent illness.
The engine on the Boston and Albany .
express which passes thOugh this city at
9 o’clock, broke down last evening and
a new engine was substituted before the
train could proceed.
. The Bridgeport papers are busily en-
gaged in trying to explain how the St.
Josephs happened to be beaten so badly
by the South Norwalk ball nine Satur-

Kearins of the Postal Telegraph com-
pany attempted to attach the Boton
. Point wires to the city poles last even-
ing, but were stopped by ofi'icer Glad-
stone. Manager Kearins hunted up
Superintendent Bonnell and the matter
was soon amicably settled.
Fred. Scofleld, an insurance agent,
left his sorrel horse and spindle wagon
standing in front of the First National
Bank, about 5 o’clock yesterday after-
noon while he went up stairs to his oi-
fice. When he returned the turnout
was gone. Later it was discovered that
a lad named Mattie Flynn had the
horse and wagon down to Five Mile
River in search of a shore dinner. He
was stopped by a party in Rowayton
and the horse returned to the owner,
but Mattie succeeded in excaping.
A Headless Body Found.
JERSEY CITY, July 25.-—Captain Daniel
McLean found the body of an unknown
man in the river on the north side of pier
3 of the Pennsylvania Railroad company.
The head was gone from the body, and.
also both arms and the left leg. The flesh
of the right leg was hanging from the
bone in long strips and presented a horri-
ble sight. There was a rope tied around
the body.
Eccentric Mr. Hartley Released.
JERSEY CITY, July iii—Edward M.
Hartley, the eccentric and wealthy Har-
lcmite who escaped from the Blooming-
dale asylum, and who took refuge in Tay-'
lor’s hotel in this city, where he was ar-
rested, was released from the Hudson
county jail today by order of the court.
The Minnie Painier Divorce Case.
LONDON, July 25.—In the divorce divi-
sion of the high court of justice today it
was announced that in the case of John
R Rogers versus Minnie Palmer, the well
known American actress, the parties con.
cerned had agreed to a general stay of
proceedings, including the divorce.
A Suicidally Inclined Cook.
VICTORIA, B. 0., July 25.-—-The City of
Glasgow, 129 days from Cardifi, with coal
for the navy yard, .-arrived today. When
three days out, Edward Kebby, a cook, cut
his throat and narrowly escaped death.
Whenyofi Cape Horn, he quietly walked
overboard, but was rescued.

ground and are collected around the
trunks of the trees, to exterminate
as many of them as possible.

mittee is to, drench the tree trunks,
from about five feet above the ground,
down to the roots, and the ground
