An excursion will leave the steam-
boat ,wharf, to-morrow morning, for

The-‘City of Albany will make an ex-
cursion to Eye Beach to-morrow, leav-
ing the dock at 2 o’clock.
The South Norwalks and St. Josephs
are contesting for supremacy at theBax-
ter grounds this afternoon.
Druggist Plaisted will issue a time
card for the Street Railway as soon as
their trolley cars commence running.
Mr. William DeKlyn is having a well
blasted down through some thirty to
forty feet of rock at his Roton Point
cottage.
The Oxford Club of Stamford will
give its first annual moonlight excur-
sion to Boton Point on Friday evening,
July 27.
Capt. John Richards captured ,the
the largest weak fish yesterday. that
has been caught around here, this sum-
mer. He weighed just two ounces short
' of thirteen pounds.
Considerable complaint is made every
evening because the Tramway company
neglects to run “trailers”. The single
cars are overcrowded and the passen-
gers made uncomfortable thereby.
At the special meeting of the fire de-
partment held in the parlors of Old
Well H. & L. company last evening, it
was voted to‘ make an cfi‘ort to have the
1895 state convention convene here.
R. J. Horn, a swtichman, was yester-
day thrown ofi‘ an engine at the Nauga-
tuck freight yard, Bridgeport, and
struck against a side—tracked freight
car. He escaped with ribs fractured.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick W. Gregory
and Mr. and Mrs. George A. Whelpley
will leave tomorrow morning for a trip
up the Hudson. They will visit Albany
and may also go to Saratoga before re-
turning.
Monday will be the last day on which
these who desire to take the civil ser—
vice examination for positions as letter
carriers and clerks, can hand in their
applications. The examination will be
held Monday, August 6th.
Arthur McDonald, of Boston, who
claimed to be a patent medicine manu—
facturer was fined $1 and costs this
morning for intoxication. He admitted
to a reporter that he had been .testing
a sample of his own medicine.
Roton Point was the Mecca yesterday
to which nearly everyone flocked who
could get away from business cares.
"Three excursions from New Haven,
New Jersey and Long Island helped to
swell the immense throng. In addition
to these was the picnic of the Norwalk
Congregational church Sunday school.
It is safe to say that yesterday Was the
largest day Boton Point has had since
its inception. The Tramway cars were
crowded to their utmost capacity all
day in carrying people to and from the
Point. ‘ .
Many who go to New York on the
City of Albany have the opportunity of
viewing the handsome new Fall River
steamer Plymouth Rock. The latter
recently went ashore and was badly
damaged. She is new on the dry docks
on the East river. She looks like a

number of visitors from this city have

Charles Vanstrom, a Swede, fell
through the bridge across the Consoli-
dated road between the depot and
Whistleville, about nine o’clock last
night. Vanstrom was on his way to
this city from Stamford and as he came
to the bridge he looked back to see if
an approaching train would overtake
him before he could cross, but he did
not calculate the distance to the bridge
correctly, and walked oil.‘ the abutment
while his head was turned the other
way. Everett E. Wheeler. who was
going home at the time, heard him
groan, and hastened to his assistance.
He was carried out under the light and
laid on the grass and Dr. Allen sum-
moned.’ Later helwas taken to the
hospital in the ambulance where he
now is. It is not known as yet, how
badly he is injured, but he complains
of his back and head paining him.

down placards which had been posted at
various places throughout the city by an-
arohists. 'i'he .placards read as follows:
"Laws against liberty having been passed
by parliament, anarchists must use all
means at their disposal for the, annihila-

30 armed men overpowered'the jailer'here
and broke down the jail doors. The mob
went to the cell where William Griffith
was confined and took him out. Proceed-
ing to the Southern Pacific water tank,
they hanged and shot him. About a week
ago Griffith assaulted a little girl. ‘
Vigilant’s Eighth Defeat.
DUBLIN, July 21.-In the regatta at
Kingston today the Britannia beat the
Vigilant by 1 minute 57 seconds, uncor-
rectea time. The British cutter obtained
a commanding lead at the start, when the
breeze was light, andwhen it fresliened
the Vigilant gained'rapidly, but the spurt
came too late.

Specialtity Meeting.
The legal voters cfthe City of N01 walk are
hereby notified and warned, that a Special
‘Meeting of said city will be held at the Town
House in said city on Tuesday, July 24th, 1894
at 3 p. m. for the following purposes, viz:
1. To make the necessary appropriation of
money. if deemed advisable. for the purchase
or condemnation ‘of the water and mill rights
between Grupe’s Reservoir and the City of
Norwalk, for the purpose of laying a water
pipe of larger sizethan the one already laid.
:3. To change the roadways where necessauy
for the purpose of increasing the water supply
of the city. and to make the necessary appro-
priation therefor; and
3. To appropriate the necessary money to
lay a pipe of sufficient dimensions to bring an
adequate supply of water from Grupe’s Reser-
voir to the city.
