The police arrested three Italians,
Saturday, who were charged with be-
ing in the row in which Antonia Ian-
nuve was stabbed at the Railroad cut,
Friday evening. They were taken to
the hospital this morning, but Iannuve
could not identify either of them as
the man who stabbed him, but stated
that they were all in the fight. Before
Justice Barrett they pleaded guilty to
breach of the peace and paid a fine of
$7 and costs. They also gave the name
of John Magliano as Ian'nuve’s assail-
ant, who they said had left town.

John 8. Morris, of Danbury, came to
this city yesterday afternoon to assist
in running the line to Baton Point for
the Postal Telegraph company. While
at work at the top of a trolley pole near
“Witches Lane,” Wilson Point, at four
o’clock, he received a shock from the
current that supplies the tramway and.
was knocked from the pole, He struck
the ground on_ his feet but instantly be:-
came unconscious. Water was procur-
ed and he soon opened his eyes but
.failed to recognize his assistants. He
”was placed on a trolle car and brought
to the Old Well hote and Dr. Burke
”called. An examination disclosed
a sprained ankle and his right arm
partially paralyzed. He recovered
sufficiently to be removed to his home
in Danbury on the 7.15 train.

England, say that a serious encounter has
taken planetherc between the British sub-
jects resident on the island and the New
raguan troops. The British, it is added,
defeated the Nicaraguan soldiers and caus-
ed the governor of Com island to fly to
the forest for refuge. . ,

The British, it also appears, seized upon
the Nicaraguan government offices, and
upon the Nicaraguan flags. This so on-
raged the natives that they sought for and

both sides in the encounters which have

Martial law has been proclaimed at Corn
island; ' '

WASHINGTON, July 1 6.——Secretnry Gresh—
am says that the state department has
not received any information concerning
the Corn island trouble. Corn island, he
said, is- 11 possession of the Nicaraguan
government and is situated about 40 miles
east of Bluefields in the Mosquito coun—
try. Therc are no American interests at
the island, and the secretary is therefore
not surprised at the lack of news of its in-
ternal troubles. '

The only recent information from the
vicinity received 'here, the secretary said,
was in the dispatch sent four days ago by
the captain of the cruiser Marblehead, re-
