The twelfth annual clam bake of I’ut-
nam Hose will be given to-night.
Kohanza Hose company of Danbury,
will visit fioton Point tomorrow.
The City of Albany will give an ex-
cursion to Port Jefferson next Sunday.
During the past season 603,000 bush-
els of oysters were caught in Bridge-
port and vicinity.
The prospects for a lull oyster set this
year is more favorable than ityhas been
for many years before.

Deputy Grand Sachem E. E. Edgett,
of Danbury, installed the chiefs of the
Uncas tribe of lied Men last evening.
Thomas Smith. a tourist, was struck
by an engine in the Bridgeport freight

“Bobby”B‘ones was taken to the Sol-
diers’ Home at Noroton yesterdayLbut
returned to this city last evening.

Chiei Vollmer took Walter Adams to
the County Home yesterday, but he
was refusad admission on the ground
that he had a homo and had run away.
School Visitor, John H. Light, made
a tour of the public schools in this city
this morning with a view to having the
necessary repairs made during vaca-
tion.
The trainmen on a freight reported
at the depot this morning that a man
was lying beside the tracks in East
Norwalk, and it was thought he was
dead. An investigation was made and
the man found to be asleep.
A brother of Martin Frenson, the
young man who lost his log by being
run over by a freight train Sunday
night,came down from Hartford yester-
day and called on him at the hospital.
The Tramway company completed
their telephone connection between the
oflice and our house to-day. If the ser-
vice works successfully the entire line
will be. equipped, so that the present
delay on the switches will be obviated.
The Fourth will be celebrated at B0-
ton Point with a grand display of fire
works in the evening. During the day
Heine’s military band will furnish music
in the grove, and in the pavilion a full
orchestra will furnish music tor dancing.
A new boat float and stairs leading to
the same, have been constructed on the
point of Keyser Island where the bridge
and dock used to stand. A flag-stafi'
has also been erected on the bluff and a
monster stars and stripes floats majes-
tically from the mast head.
Constable Albert Allen, who was shot
in the head two weeks ago by a German
at Saugatuck, and who has been treated
at the Presbyterian hospital in New
York, has returned home, improved ex-
cept the left eye, which is blurred. He
fears permanent injury for that optic.
The ball has not been removed.
While trying to place a new seventy-
five foot smokestack on Barthol’s hat
factory‘this adorning the ropes, which
had been secuiied to the large chimney,
pulled the latter down. crashing through
two floors. Luckily the shop was closed
and the men away else a' loss of life
might have occurred. ‘Mr. Barthol is
at the Thousand Islands and Mr. E. W.
Beard was also absent at the time of
the accident.
. All of the express trains ,from New
York to-day carried large loads of
people bound for the country and sea-
side. . The White Mountain express
made its first trip this sea80n yesterday.
They will continue running daily until
September 29th. The train north bound
leaves New York at nine o’clock every
morning arriving at New Haven at 10:-
45. The south bound train leaves New
Haven at 5:20 in the afterooon arriv—
ing at New York at 7: 10in the evening.
Both trains are resplendent in their
new furnishings.
At the Council meeting last night
Mayor Lee presided. The minutes of
the last meeting were read and approv-
ed and all bills ordered paid. A vote
was passed ordering the Street Railway
Company to erect iron poles for their
trolley- wire from the Con regational
church to the Consolidate Railroad
depot. The committee on finance re-
ported favorably on the resolution pro-
viding for the weekly and semi-monthly
payment of bills for salaries for city cm-
ployees, and authorized the city clerk
to draw orders on the city treasurer
when the bills were countersigned by
the appropriate committee and com-
mittee on finance. Several other un-
, important matters were discussed after
which the meeting adjourned.
To-morrow evening, at the Baxter
Grounds, W. A. Benedict & Co. will set
off a magnificient display of fireworks.
The grand stand will be reserved for
ladies, and there will undoubtedly be a
large crowd present to Witness the dis.
