The first summer night dance of the
season will take place at Roton Point
tonight: The Tramway cars will make
a late trip to bring the dancers home.
The hearing in the case of W. H.
Garvey, charged with running over and
causing the death of Richard Kay, an
old soldier at N oroton, is being heard
in Darien to-day.
“The Roton Point Improvement com-

The City of Albany will give another
of these popular excursions to- -morrow.

Norwalk at 2 o’clock p. m.
Vice president George W. McKibbin
of the Tramway company, has pur-
chased a launch propelled by electrici-
ty. He will bring it to this city and
place it in the river, and hopes to enjoy
many a modulight sail abOut the islands.
ANatioual service will be held to-
morrow evening at the Congregational
church, in keeping with the celebration
of- Independence Day. There will be
musical and scriptural responses and a
' sermon by the pastor on “Christian
Citizenship.”
On July 4th the City of Albany will
make the following trips to and from
Roton Point: Leave South Norwalk at
. 1130 a. m.. 2:,00 3:15and 4:30p. m.
Returning, leave Boton Point at 12: m.,
2: 30, 4:00 and 6: 15 p. m. Fare for the
. round trip 20 cents.
Charles Wiley was tried before J us
tice Barrett this morning ,on the charge
of breach of the peace, be having been
one of the parties who created a dis-
turbance 1n the Hollow Thursday night.
He pleaded guilty and was fined 37 and
csosts and sent to jail for 30 days. Wiley

horse a short time ago. He has been
out of jail just twenty days.

On Tuesday last Chief of Police
Brown, of Milford, came to this city
and with the assistance of Chief Voll-
mer, captured Thomas Tuhey. who was
wanted in Milford for burglary, rob-
bery and rape.: Chief Brown took him
to Milford and locked him up Yester-
a telegram from Chief Brown saying
Tuhey had cscaped.’1‘uhey is de-
scribed as being 5 feet 8 inches high,
florid complexion and sandy moustache.
At the council meeting last evening
Mayor Lee presided. The committee
on streets reported that the N orwalk
Street Railway Company had their rails
abbve grade,- between Cedar street and
the city line, in some places, eleven
inches, and recOmmended that the com-
pany be compelled to lower them to the
grade on each side of the rails. The re-
port of the committee was adogted and:
a resolution passed orderingt 6 com-
pany to relay their tacks on West ave-
nue to conform to the grade of the street
and directed that the notice be served
.1 on the company within tweuty- four
hours. E. A. WoodWard and others
petitioned that the Norwalk Street Rail-
way Company be compelled to erect
iron poles on North Main street, refer-
red to electric light commissioners.
Edwin Adams, of the committee to as-
sess be‘neflts and damages on Bayview
avenue reported that the map was not
sufiicient. and another was ordered.
W. E. Collins and Amelia R. Jessie peti-
tions for permission to erect wooden
structures were granted. The matters
of drawing orders by the city clerk, the
payment of Orders by the city treasurer,
and the city officials were referred to
committee on ordinances. The Water
Commissioners were ordered to lay a
water main on Pleasant street; estimated
cost, 3160. 00. The Council then ad-
journed to Monday July

William Grenville Temple died in this
city of apoplcxy. He was stricken Wed
nesday and never fully recovered con-
sciousness. The deceased was 70 years of

Mr. Wiman, when seen at the Tombs
prison today, had not yet definitely heard
that the argument on the application had
been adjourned He said he was in good
health and hopeful, keeping up his cour-,
age as well as he could.
In answer to a question as to what he
thought would be done in case the appli-
cation for a certificate was not granted, he
said with a mournful Smile:
“Well, I suppose I will then have to go
to Sing Sing.”

DUBLIN, J 11116 30.-—The Irish newspa-
pers publish astutement t0 the efl'cct that
a sailor named Kennedy, now at Belfast,
has made a declaration that While serv-
ing on board the bark Trafalgar, in the
Indian ocean, the cook, Daniel Sheehan. or
Sheenan, a native of Cork. died of fever. ~
Before he expired, according to Kennedy,
he told the latter that he, and not his
brother, who is in prison, attempted to
blow up the house of parliament in 1885.
Kennedy adds that Sheehan refused to
give any details of the affair with the ex-
ception of saying that he and his brother,"
who were then in America, traveled from
Chicago to London on purpose to commit
the outrage.
