The concert given by the New Turk
Philharmonic club, under the auspices
of the Chautauqua. Union at Hoyt’s
Opera. House, last night, drew a large
audience. The music was grand and
highly appreciated by those fortunate
enough to be present. The audience
and musicians were greatly disturbed
during the evening by the piano in
Butler lodge rooms, but as a candidate
was being initiated the piano could not
be dispensed with.

Sixteen molders came up from _New
York this morning and left the train at
East; Norwalk. They then boarded .a
Tramway car audeere brought to this
city. When Water street was reached
they alighted and walked to the factory
of the Lockwood Manufacturing com-
pany and were put to work. . The com-
mittee of striking molders at the South
Norwalk depot were soon advised. of
their arrival and succeeded 111 inducing
four of the new men to return. When
seen this morning Mr. Lockwood was
very reticent in regard to the matter.
He admitted that he had procured
molders, but said that hei’was not aware
that any of them had been induced to
return.

CleCOW, April Ill—Tho fire at Hradisch,
Moravia, destroyed the ladies’ school, the
hotel, Franciscan monastery and the
church tower, which fell into the market
place. The annual market was being held
at the time, and large numbers of people
were in the open square in addition to the
regular inhabitants. The fall of the tower
caused a panic, during which a. number of
persons Were injured by being trampled
upon. No loss of life is reported.
ViENNA, April 18.~The fires at Neu San-
dec, in Galicia: Hradisch. in Moravia, and
Adler Kostoletz, in Bohemia, tJmt almost
entirely destroyed the thre-a‘towns, broke
out siniultavm‘asly, and this fact has led
to the supposition that they were started
by incendinries who were acting on a con-
certcd plan.

MERIDIA‘S. Miss, April 19.—RObert Belk
an'd Dudley Scott, the incendiaries who
were arrested Monday night, have con-
fessed. The gang applied the torch to the
west end public school building for the
purpose of drawing the attention of the
fire department and the citizens from the
business portion of the city, and during
the excitement it was their intention to
set fire to a number of business houses
and rob the Meridian National bank.
The arrest of Bell; and Scott caused a
miscarriage of the plot and saved the town
from destruction. Belk and Scott, in their
confession, gave the names of parties who
had employed them to burn property to
secure the insurance. The police are with-
holding the names until the arrests are
made. ,
- Excitement is still running high, and
open threats of lynching the incendiaries
are made.
A Destructive Huilstorm.
TOPEKA,'Api-il 19.-Ceutral and southern
Kansas and the Cherokee strip were vis-
ited by a damaging hailstorm, followed
by heavy rains, doing much damage to
growing crops and property. At King-
man, Kan, the hallstoncs stripped the
trees and beat wheat and oats intothe
ground. Nearly all the windows in the
town with southern exposure were broken.
Lyons and Anthony, Kan, report similar
experiences. Pond Creek, 0, T., suffered
considerably. The damaged section in
Kansas is in the middle of the heaviest
wheat growing district in the state.

ST. PAUL, April 19.——J. M. Egan, who
has been so long and actively connected
with the Chic-ago and Great \Vestern rail-
way, has tendered his resignation as most--
dent: and general manager, and it has been
accepted. Mr. Egan’s place as president
has been filled by the election of A. B.
Stickney, who was formerly president,
but of. lute-has been chairman of the board
of directors. Samuel Stickney, son of
President Slickney, succeeds Mr. Egan as
general manager.
Peterson “’ill Await Extradition.
BROOKLYX, April ill-Charles Peterson,
the Norwegian sailor who is charged with
killing a shipmate named Shields while off
the coast of Brazil on the British bark Du~
leep Singh last February, was arrested to
day. Peterson was confined in irons on
board the bark since the death of Shields.
The prisoner was committed to jail to
await; extradition.

Samuel Ryan’s Body Found.
LOCK HAVEN, P8., April 19.—The body of
Samuel Ryan, aged 17 years, who has been
missing from his home near Logantou
since the recent snowstorm, was found in
a fence corner this morning. The body
was lying 50 feet from the barn of a neigh-
bor. It is thought Ryan became bewil-
dered during the storm and froze to death.

MONACO, April ill-General Goggle of
the Italian army has been arrested at La-
turbie, near this city, charged with being
a spy. General Goggle is said to have
been watching the maneuvers of the
French Alpine troops. Damaging docu-
ments, according to report, were found in
the general‘s possession.

LEBANON, N. IL, April 19,—Judge Sinit ll .
has ordered a hearing for June 16 to deter-
mine to whom the reward belongs for the
capture of Almy, the murderer of Christy
\Varden, for which there are five claim-
ants. The matter was referred to the su-
preme court for adjustment by the last-
legislature.
A Hailstorm at Cannes.
CAXXES, April 19.——:\ violent hailstorm
swept; over (.‘aiincs and vicinity today, do
iug irreparable damage to fruit trees and
grapevines. The storm lasted a quarter
of an hour, during which time the fall Of
hailstones was tremendous. The size 'of
the hailstoncs was that of an ordinary
marble.
