a side and gate money. Dan McIntyre

uponas stakeholder and the referee
was to be chosen at the ring side.
The Lip was given that not a. word
was to be said about the fight until
after it had been pulled off. Sports
were beginning to lay" their bets and
McGirr was ready to go into training.
Now all has been queered by Tuttlc.
He has discovered a hitch somewhere
and until that bitch is fixed he Will not
fight. 'l‘uttle is employed in the Yost
'l‘ypewriting factory and his fellow em-
ployee think he can defeat McGirr with-
out much efi‘ort. He is heavier than
Freddie and some say he 13 pluckier
and can hit'hcrder than any pugihst in
the city. Freddie’s friends say that
their money is ready any tune the
other side gets ready to talk busmers.

“Lady Windemere’s Fan” has been
spoken of in the theatrical world as the
most brilliant society skit since Sheri-
dan scored in the fashionable world of
his time in “ The School for Scandal,”
which has followed the lead of Jones
and of Pinero, in trying to teach a les-
son while amusing his audiences. The
lesson of the play is, that a. husband is
portant matters, even with the best of
intentions; the wife is sure to find out
that she is being deceived, and her sus-
picions may lead to worse troubles than
the whole truth could have brought
out. With all, its amusing, witty talk,
this lesson is most vividly taught. The
moral of the play, if it has one, is con-
tainediuthe followxng quotation: “Let
be that thinketh "he standeth take heed
lest he fell.” “Lady Windemere’s
Fan” will be presented at the above
named popular theatre to-night.

gy man of Waterville, was on Wednes-
day chosen superintendent of the Con-
necticut School for boys at Meriden.
At a. meeting of the New Haven Yacht
club in the New Haven house last even-
ing, about forty members of the. club
were present. It was decided to hold
the annual banquet the latter part of
this month. .
