AN INTERESTING SKETCH.

ington street, died yesterday afternoon.
Miller’s hall, Stamford, caught. fire
yesterday, but was extinguished by the
fire department before serious damage
had been done.
After eighty days laboring the com-
mittee of the City Councfl have decid-
éd what they want the HorseVBailroad
company to agree to.
The Walsh vs. Walsh divorce suit was
resumed in the Superior Court. at
Bridgeport yesterday. the defendant
was placed on the stand and gave testi-
mony in vindication of himself.
After considering the petition of the
Independent Social club, to be allowed
the use of the grounds adjoining the
Putnam House, for three meetings the
Council finally granted their request.
The Germanic Smngerbund celebrat-
ed their Tenth anniversary last night,
at their hall on the Washington street
bridge. Music and dancing was the
order of the evening and a. fine‘supper .
ended the festivities.
A party of fifteen, from New Canaan,
last night surprised Mr. and Mrs. John
K. Cashow at. their home on Concord
street. A merry time was had until
midnight, when the happy party of
friends departed for their homes.
At the meeting of the city-council
held last. evening Mayor Lee presuled
with all thh Councilmen present. The
minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved. A petition was signed
by property owners and others asking
that crosswalks be placed at the junction
of Raymond and Water sfreets, one
across the former and one across the
latter, was referred to the committee
on streets, sewers and sidewalks. The
chairman of the committee on health
reported that. the house at the corner
of Haviland and Water streets was still
quarantined and would be kept so for
fourteen days. He also stated that one
of the inmates showed symptom of
having smallpox and that the health
officer was watching "the case closely.
On motion of Councilman Slater the
petition of the Independent Social -
club, for the use of the grounds next.
to Putnam Hose house, was taken from
the table. Its passage was argued
against. by Councilmen Scully and
Schoub, but it was finally passed. A
recess was taken to allow the commit-
tee appointed to consider the Horse
Railway and Tramway petitions, after
which the Street Commissioner was
ordered to prepare a statement of what
was needed to complete the placing of
the Tramway tracks on South Main
street in the condition agreed upon by
the company at the time the tracks
were laid. The meeting then ad-
journed until Friday night.
