The funeral of Mrs. Francis McEwen '
was held this afternoon at 2 o’clock.

The themometer registered 4'0 below
zero in this city this morning. At
Ridgefield the mercury touched 10 be-
low and at Litchfield 15.

An agent of Primrose at West is in
the city to-day putting out their bills.
This company will present Monte Carlo
at Hoyt’s Opera House March 3.

Mrs. Eliza Street snifered a shock of
paralysis on her right side early Friday . * ,
morning, at the home of her daughter
Mrs. Clara Fleet, on Seymour Place.

The celebrated May Banjo club of
Bridgeport will give one of their inimi-
table concerts at the City Hotel this
evening and a large audience will no
doubt be present.

The case of Robert _ Nicholas,
charged with stealing a bicycle from
William H. Ferris last October, was not
heard in Bridgeport yesterday owmg
to the Clark rape case being unfinished.

The aurora borealis was seen first in

the northern sky and then spread over

a wide area to the West. The color was

green when first seen, then changed to .

purple, blue and finally a deep red. It .

spread from the horizon to the zenith IN THE WORLD

and assumed many fantastic shapes and .

the various colors named. The lights

flickered like the flames over a bed of -

live coals and then finally disappeared ‘ , .

A few days ago aman named Wil-
liams arrived in this city and rented
Arion Hall for the purpose of having
his sister, Minnie M. Williams, give
several recitations from Shakespeare.
He visited the Sentinel office and had
a number of tickets printed, all of
which bore the names of some of the
best people of the town as patrons. ‘
These tickets he disposed of at 32 for .
five, among the 400 of Norwalk. The
readings were to have been given last
night and shortly before 8 o’clock the
crowd began assembling at Arion hall.
When it was time for the entertainment
to begin there were at least 300 ladies
and gentlemen present. After a long
wait it was ascertained that Mr. Wil-
liams had departed for parts unknown
and that Miss Williams was a myth.
To-day it is quite difficult to find any-
one who had purchased a ticket, al-
though there were several of them in
existence among the leaders of society .
in this city.

The Court oi’l’robate for the District of
Norwalk hath limited and allowed six months

from the date hereof. for the creditors of said ,
estate to exhibit their claims for settlement. ‘
