The general admission to the Black
Patti concert in Music Hall to- night
will be but 50 cents. Tickets can be- se-
cured at the box office.
There were about 500 present at the
city meeting in Music Hall last night.
Acting Mayor Fox presided and clerk
Wilcox acted as secretary. There were
a number of speakers against a paid fire
department, and the principal speaker
in favor was Gen. Nelson Taylor, who
occupied the floor a good part of the
evening, much to the disgust of many
present. When the vote was taken
there were 400 ballots cast, 236 against
a paid department and 164 in favor.
This isthe second time that the ques-
tion of a paid fire department for this
city has been defeated and it is not like-
ly that the question will again be con-
sidered until the need of a paid depart-
ment re more urgent than at present.

is 79 years of age and cast aside the title
of baron in France, coming to this coun-
