The blacksmith shop .of George T.
Carr at the corner of Raymond and
Water streets, was entered by burglars-
valued at $50 stolen. -
Conductor John Dyas,of the Consoli-
dated road, is attending the trainmen’s
convention in Boston. Conductor Grif-
fin has charge of Conductor Dyas’s
train during his absence.
Theo. M. Jones, of the U. S. Secret
.Service, was in this city on Friday and
Saturday last. looking up green goods
men. After Mr. Jones departed they
dropped into town and sold their brick.
Harry Hunt and Charles \Vanson, of
East Norwalk, were up before Justice
Barrett this morning. having been ar—
rested last night for drunkenness.

Joseph Genzey, who was arrested on
Sunday for intoxication, was found
guilty by Justice Barrett yesterday
afternoon and fined $137 and costs. As
Joseph could not pay up he will go to
Bridgeport to-day with Chief Vollmer.
Attorney Frost expects to bring his
appeal case before the next term of the
Superior court,to test the point whether
the county commissioners may grant li~
censes against the protest of every prop-
erty holder in the neighborhood, as is
charged they did in the Village case.
The man, or rather villain, who
makes it a practice to stand on Pine
Island and insult young girls while
on their way to work, better have a
care if he does not wish to land in
Jall with a modicum of 'shot in his vile
carcass.

The committee appointed by the
Council to investigate the matter of a
paid fire department for this city, met
last night and appointed George S.
Trowbridge, Matthew Corbett and R.
H._ Golden a sub-committee to ascer-
tain the cost to the city of a paid de-
partment and report the same to the
Council at their next meeting.
' A man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8
inches in height, with a dark mous-
tache, bald head covered by a black
derby hat, and carrying a canvas tele-
scopic bag, engaged board of Mrs.
Harriet Mulvehill, on Haviland street,
on Saturday. Early Monday he de-
parted and with him went a suit of
clothes belonging to Hugh McClusker
and a coat and vest belonging to Thom-
as Button. He gave his name at the
boarding house as Leonard.

A good sized audience greeted Gus
Williams at Music Hall last night and
those who were so fortunate as to be
there will not soon forget “April Fool. ”
The play gave Mr. Williams a wide
scope wherein to display his abilities,
which he did with all of his old-time
dash. The Midgeley’s, Sager and Fan-
ny, were unusually good, and it is safe
to say that rager is the funniest man
on the stage to-day. He kept the house
in a continual roar and the audience
could not get enough of him. The vo-
calists were all good, while the duct by
Charles and Mynnee Burroughs is de-
serving of special mention as was Mr.
Burroughs’ whistling solos. James
Sturges as the modern hercules, al-
though new to the part, played the role
successfully. Taken all in all “April
F001” is just the sort of play one wants
to see to @3037 a good hearty laugh.

victed on a. charge cf taking part in an
anarchistic assemblage in Union square,
