Justice Barrett yesterday decided the liquor captured in the recent raid near Five Mile River to be a nuisance, and Chief Vollmer destroyed it. The schooner which came in over the Smith’s Island reef during the last' storm, and sunk near Tavern Island, was yesterday pumped out and towed around onto the flats at the western side of the Wilson Point dock. This morning Justice Barrett fined him $1, 00 and costs, which he paid. Lynch formerly lived in Norwalk, but now resides in Wilton. He is an old veteran, having lost an arm during the war. morphine Killed Him. ST. LOUIS, Aug. 31.'——Thomas L. Shortell, traveling passenger agent of the Northern Pacific railroad, was found in an uncon- scious condition in Forest park yesterday morning and taken to the dispensary, Where it was announced that he was suf— fering from morphine poisoning. From the dispensary he was removed to the city hospital, Where. he died. The case is every mysterious one. ' The Scaffold Fell. PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 31. ——WhileAndrew Hare, P. Dolores? Donato Bonano, George Stewart, Frank Marine, Fritz Kiebler, John work on a scaffold this morning the scaf- fold suddenly fell. Hare and Dolores were instantly killed, and the others were severe ly injured, some of Whom are likely to die. Mysterious Disappearance. LONG BRANCH, Aug. 31.—Eden Howland last Sunday ev ening called upon Miss Geoxgiann Smith, whom he was to marry next Sunday. He left Miss Smith’s resi- dence at 10: 30 o‘ c ‘ock that evening and has not been heard of since. He is 73 years old and a well to do citizen. It is supposed that he has been waylaid and robbed. Cholera In Berlin Water. BERLIN, Aug.’ 31.—Two fresh cases of Asiatic cholera have been reported today in this city. Both were caused by thedrink- ing of city water.
