Edward Ellwood has recovered from

The gates at the railroad crossing
were broken again Saturday for the
fourteenth time this month.
A carriage was wrecked in East Nor-
walk last evening, the wheel becoming
caught 1n the trolley car track
A passenger car was slightly damaged
Saturday night, while being switched
into the “hole” below the depot.
Mr. Charles T. Winters and family,
of Newark, N. J. ., spent Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Vosburgh, of Spring
street.
Joseph Kleinfelter has recovered
from his severe attack of rheumatism
and 1s again on the route for Alder man
Judson.
The Putnam Hose Co. ball team will
play the Mayflower Hook and Ladder
team, on the Baxter Grounds, Satur-
day next.
Engineer Wood is replacing the old
one-inch water pipe which runs through
St. John avenue, East Norwalk, with a
four- inch pipe.
Col. Russell Frost is in White Plains
to day, attending a hearing in the set
tlement of an estate before the Surro-
gate of Westchester county.
Quite a large party assembled at the
Knob, Saturday evening ,and enjoyed
the regular weekly dance of that popu~
lar organization.
The merry-go- -round at Roton Point
was run yesterday for the first time on
Sunday. It will now run seven days a
week until the close of the season.
The City of Albany and the Rosedale
collided at Bay Ridge yesterday. he
Albany was slightly damaged and the
Bosedale escaped with a few scratches.
Two youngsters belonging in New
York were left by the excursion at Ro-
ton Point Saturday. They were sent
home on a train from Five Mile River.
Over 500 tickets were sold yesterday
for the excursion to Coney Island by
the City of Albany. A delightful time
was enjoyed by all, and the boat was
back at the wharf at 9 o’clock.
A large number of people daily visit
Gregory’s Point, and after a good sea
bath, en 0y 8. shore dinner. The Point,
undeer 11h. John E. O’Sullivan’ s man-
agement, is becoming quite popular. _
The time has expired for delinquent
dog owners to have their animals regis-
tered and Grand Juror Raymond will
proceed at once to prosecute those who
have neglected to attend to the matter.
The case against Philip and Ike Har-
ris, the junkmen who are charged with
receiving the wire stolen from the
Electric Light company, has been post-
poned until Thursday morning at 10
o’clock.
The Putnam Hose company ball nine
defeated the Crystals at the Baxter
,Grounds Saturday afternoon by a score
of 10 to 8. The Crystals seemed to have
the game in their hands from the first,
but near the end they became ‘ ‘Tattled”
and the Putnams won on the wire by a
head.
A new platform was laid on the east
side of the depot yesterday. After the
old planks were removed a considerable
amount of money was found under—
neath. One boy picked up over a dol-
lar, another sixty cents, and another
more lucky than all, discovered two
gold rings, one of which was of con-
siderable value. ‘
Four colored damsels from Norwalk
were promiscously “dumped” on South
Main street, near Elizabeth street, yes-
terday afternoon. They were driving
in a two seated carriage and In attempt-
ing to turn into Elizabeth street the
hind wheel of the carriage became
caught in the car tracks and the ladies
“touched bottom” in short order.
' After this week. the truckmen and
peddlers will be compelled to keep
them license numbers exposed on their
wagons, and all who fail to do so will

another Sunday, a youngster named

several companions.
The tWo months old son of Andrew
Johnson of Long Island City, who was
brought to this city in hopes that the
country air would benefit him,died y 65'
terday at the residence of Chris Law-
son, corner of Cedar street and Taylor
avenue.
A dense volume of smoke arising
from the woods on Long Island in-
terested South Norwalkers all day yes-
terday. It proved to be a large forest
fire and in the evening was very bril—
liant. Another fire, which was prob-
ably a large barn filled with hay. broke
out about 1158 p. m. and was plainly dis-
cernible from the Washington street
bridge.
John H. Bates, a carpenter, of West
Norwalk, who was committed to the
Brido'eport jail last week, for debt, on
a ju gment in a civil process obtained
against his body by the J. T. Prowitt
Co. , has made application to take the
poor debtorS’ oath. Justice Barrett
will go to Bridgeport Wednesday and
administer the same. after which he
will be r.eleased
The wind was very heavy 111 the her-
bor yesterday, and several accidents to
boats are reported to day. One small
cat-boat had her entire sail blown
away, and another boat was driven on
the Sand-bar near the Spindle. _
The Florence B. had her mast split
while trying to land rt Calf Pasture,
but managed to make her anchorage
later in the evening, when the wind had
subsided.
J.- W. Miller’s machine shop on
Water street, near the meadows, was
burglarized some time between Satur-
day night and Sunday morning. The
thieves gained an entrance by break.
ing a window in the rear end of the
shop and unlocking the catch. The
rear door also showed marks of the
iobbers, and a piece of s pipe about
seven feet long, with’ wfiiich they had
tiied to pry open the door, was found
where they had dropped it, near the
end of the building. Astep ladder was
also found, which had been taken from
Knapp’s box factory near by. The
thieves were evidently familiar with
the premises, and were no doubt ma-
chinists, for only the best tools in the
shop were taken. and the old ones left.
The loss 18 not very heavy, the proprie-
tor placing the amount at $20. The
robbery was reported to the police
Sunday and they are at work on the
case.
