ford to- day taking their examinations.
Gen. Haven and Colonel Frost are con-
ducting the examination.
The insurance adjusters have not as
yet been able to settle the Hallock
Bros. claim on their recent fire.
Another attempt to come to an' under-
standing will be made to-morrow.
Selectman Tallmadge Baker has the
application papers in preparation for
the admissron of the poor demented sol-
dier, George Platt to the Soldier’ 8
Home. In the meantime Platt is con-
fined at police headquarters.
Gould Seymour created considerable
excitement at the Washington street
crossing this morning. In crossing the
tracks all four wheels of his wagon
caught between the rails and planks
and were extiicated with considerable
difficult y.
The case of John W. Haddock,
charged with beating his wife the 6th
of last June, came up before Justice
Cook in Darien yesterday. Haddock
was bound over to the Superior Court
and the justice reserved his decision on
the charge of non support.
A lady at the depot this morning gave
her baby a large piece of ice whic
stuck in its threat. The baby turned
black in the face and the lady ran into
Baxter’s drug store, but before assist-
ance could be rendered the ice had
melted and slipped down the child’s
threat.
The police of this city are wearing
badges that were purchased when the
city was first chartered. They resem-
ble a good-sized tin pie plate and are
as bright as mud. Each night as ofii-
cers Conley, G. Washington z”Gladstone
and Sam Ireland don their new uni-
forms they look at these pie plates and
sigh for an appropriation from the city
