George Platt of Norwalk was arrest... ed in thrs city last night for vagrancy. When he was brought up for' trial to- day the Justice saw at once that he was demented, and unlike the Norwalk jus- tice who tried him a short time ago, sent him home, and not to Bridgepdrt. After Platt was liberated he walked up .to F. D. Lawton Sr. Co.’s grocery store on South Main street and helped him- self to some peaches which were on the outside of the store. Chief Voll- mer found him again and started him home, but Platt returned four times after that and sampled the peaches. Finally he was placed in the station- house. A horse attached to one of DeKlynjs bakery wagons started to run away this morning from in front of the Mahacke- mo hotel. He was stopped on Wash- ington street. No damage. The lease held by the city on the building occupied by the truck com- pany and police has expired, and it. is thought that the city will not renew 1t; but instead, will erect a building on Franklin street. The connections for the tramway cars have been made over the Washington street bridge and the cars will run the entire route for the first time either this evening or t'o-morrow morning. Three cars will be put on the route and trips will be made every fifteen min- ites. The four-tracking of the Consoli- dated railroad between this city and Stamford is rapidly going forward. . At various points the work has been start- ed and considerable progress made. Just above Glenbrook quite a stretch of road has been done and a new bridge is being built. The surveyors are at work about the Darien depot. Joseph Levysdo was tried yesterday afternoon before Justice Barrett, for a breach of the peace committed on June 28th last. All the witnesses on both sides of the ease were heard. and as their testimony was given in English, German, Hungarian and Slavish, it was six o’clock before they concluded. so the Justice continued the case until Tuesday evening next to hear the argu- ments. Daniel Deering of Norwalk and “Billy” Brown of this city got very drunk yesterday and started out to cap- ture a tramway car. They rode up town and down several times and final- ly made themselves so objectionable that they were put off the car in East Norwalk. They came to South Nor- walk later in the evening and Deering muét have spent the night here, for he was arrested very early this morning, so drunk that he qoulcl hardly navigate.
