Complaint is made by residents of
South Main street of the practice of ball
playing 1n the street, indulged in by
scholars on their way to and from the
Concord street school. One day this
week a lady was struck on the hip by a
ball thrown by a ten year old youngster,
and quite painfully' 1njnred. ‘
Trouble broke out again in the Hun-
garian quarter last night. Joseph Kel-
ly and Mrs. Bose Kerikus became in-
volved in a difiiculty arising over a
cooking utensil, which resulted 1n Kel-
ly severely choking and beating Mrs.
Kerikus. Kelly was arrested and this
morning Justice Barrett imposed a fine
and costs, amounting to $14. 56. Kelly
paid up.
Reporter Mitchell took an impromptu
bath on the steamerISylvan Shore one
day this week. It happened in this
wise. There was a coil of hose on the
boat attached to a hydrant. The re-
porter thought to have some fun and
turned on the water so suddenly that
the hose burst and three or four per-
sons who were standing near received
a thorough drenching.
Ernest W. Tallmadge together with
his wife, sister- -in law andD little girl,
were driving down South Main street,
on their way home, Thursday even1ng
when their horse stumbled and fell
over a pile of dirt and stones in front
of florist John II. Smith’s residence,
but luckily did no damage beyond
giving the ladies a severe shock. The
Tramway company are having their
tracks paved at this point under the
direction of Contractor Blakeslee, but
at night no lights are placed on the
piles of dirt and stones to warn passers
by, and a serious accident is likely to
occur there on any evening.
