In our account of the road race of the Norwalk Wheel club, yesterday, we sta- ted that the race was to be held June 17th. It should have read. June 27th. The Alpha race is June 17th. The annual school meeting was held last evening at the Franklin street school. Beyond the reading of reports and the transaction of routine business, nothing of importance was done. Mr. B. E. Geldschmidt on Tuesday sacrificed about four quarts of beauti- ful black whiskers which he had been cultivating ever since last summer. He proposes having them woven into a rug. Hon. E. C. Benedict of Greenwich, came up to Wilson’s Point last night in his yacht. From there he was taken to Dorlon s Point in a cutter and thence to Norwalk, where he attended thé meeting of the stockholders of the Nor walk Horse Railway company. “ China” Weston met with an acci- dent yesterday afternoon. While driv- ing up North Main street the wheels of ' his cab caught in the car tracks and one wheel was wrenched ofi', letting the vehicle down on the ground. There were two colored ladies in the carriage, but neither one was injured. A coach containing three ladies and a gentleman came very near meeting with a serious accident last evening. The horses became frightened at the: switch- er which was passing,and began to back on to the tracks. One of the ladies jumped while the other was lifted to a place of safety by the gentleman. The third passenger barely escaped being struck by the engine. As it was, her arms was slightlyU injured. If they had all remained in their seats, they would have been perfectly safe, as the driver applied the lash freely and the coach Was gotten out of harm’s way.
