Evidence of an Appalling Tragedy in '
South Carolina.
GREEN’VILLE, S. 0., April 12.—News has
reached here that the bodies 'of E. W.
Henesley, wife, grown daughter and 12-
year—old son, were found Monday morning
in the ruins of their cabin. They lived
thirty miles above here, on the side of
Grassy mountain, in a remote and secluded
section. The cabin is supposed to have
been burned some time during Sunday
night. Investigation is being made, and
it is thought unlikely that the family
would have failed to be aroused by the fire
or would have had any difficulty in escap-
ing from so small a building. The scene
of the tragedy is in the moonshine section,
and there is a suspicion that Hencsley may
have become involved. in some of the
family feuds so frequent in the mountains
and the family became the victims of some
enemy’s yengeaiice.
Beat His Child to Death. .
BOWLING GREEN, Ky., April 12.—-A hor-
rible murder and a double attempt at sui-
cide occurred in this city. George Bnad-
ley, at well known colored man, flew into a
rage about something his 7~year—old boy
had done, and picking up a. piece of plank
he beat the child to death. Horrified at
what he had done Bradley went down
town and purchased some poison and
went back home. He and his wife both
took a dose of it. Thepoison did not op-
erate fast enough for Bradley, and he cut
his throat, making a gash four inches long
and nearly severing the jugular vein.
Bradley will die, but it is thought his wife
may recover. .
The Tryner Inquest. _
VINELAXD, N. J., April l2.-—The inquest
on the body of J aiiies' P. Tryner, the aged
miser, who was found dead on Saturday
last, was resumed yesterday. The Capel-
las, the Italian family who had lived with
Tryner, testified to having lived peacefully
and pleasantly with him. Andrew Sailor
and Thomas Pitbon, neighbors of ’l‘yncr,
testified that the latter had on several cc.-
casions said he would iii-Le to get rid of the
Italian family; that he was afraid of them,
and that the son, Toncy, had threatened to
stab him.
A Long Strike Ended.
W'HEELING, ‘W. Va, April 12.—Late last
night the electric car strike was declared
ofi. This action was the result of a con:
ference between the officials of the com-
pany and the arbitration committee of the
Ohio Valley Trades assembly, and the on t—
come is a victory for the company. By
the settlement the company agrees topm-
ploy only such of the strikers as they de-
sire, and to retain the non—union men who
have stood by them. The strike has been
in force three months.
Cyclone in Kansas and Nebraska.
HAwATHA, Kan, April 12.—A cyclone
passed over southern Kansas yesterday,
and reports received are to the effect that
the towns of Everest, Willis and Powhatan
were wrecked. Several lives are said to be
lost and many injured. Only meagre de-
tails_are at hand.
OMAHA, Neb., April 12.—-A terrific cy-
clone passed over Nebraske last evening.
Page, a village of 200, is reported de-
stroyed. Many lives are believed to have
been lost.
Biay be Expelled from the G. A. R.
ALBANY, April 12,—Farnham Post No.
458, of New York, some time since‘ adopted
resolutions criticizing the present pension
laws and sent circulars containing the cir-
cumstances throughout the country,which
action is claimed to be an infringement of
the by laws. The post has been ordered to
explain the infringement of the rules, and
if they fail to do so satisfactorily they will
be expelled from the order.
Valuable Lead Mine Discovered.
PARKERSBURG, W. Va, April 12.—For
several years John Sayre, who lives near
here, has been selling lead in considerable
quantities, but would never tell where he
got it. A short time ago he disclosed the
location of the mine, and it was found to
be one of the most extensive lead proper-
ties in the. country. Pittsburg capitalists
will open the mines on a large scale.
The Labor Battle in Hull.
HULL, April 12.—The labor battle is still
in progress, but the employers show a firm
front. The work is practically concen-
trated at the Albert, Alexandria and Vic-
toria. docks. The entrance to the docks is
still guarded by the military. Three hun-
dred and fifty non-union men reached
Hull from London yesterday. Their train
was stoned at the entrance to the city.
The Choctaw Troubles.
PARIS, Tex, April 12.—Both Choctaw
factions are recruiting and getting every-
thing in readiness for a. fight. Locke has
received a reinforcement of thirty-seven
men, and the militia. _are constantly re-
ceiving recruits, although some of their
men are going away. A company of sol-
diers from Fort Reno, O. T., reached Ant-
lers this morning.
Congratulating Cardinal Vaszary.
VIENNA, April 12.—Emperor Franz
Joseph and the pope have telegraphed con-
gratulations to Cardinal Vaszary. Hun-
dreds of similar dispatches from all parts
of the world have been received by the
cardinal. Between twenty-five and thirty
were sent from America alone. Dr, Kohl,
the cardinal’s secretary, probably will re-
cover. . .
A Dynamite Plot Exposed.
LONG ISLAND CITY, L 1., April 12.—Otto
Eckhold, aged 43 years, aprisoner in the
Queens county jail here]. i a charge of
arson, has disclosed to the authorities a.
plot to destroy the whiting works of E. V.
Crandall on Grand avenue, Maspeth, L. I.
Three dynamite bombs were found under
the stable in the rear of the whi ting works.
The Kachylicn Revolt Revived.
RANGOOX, April 12.—Tlie Kachyhen re-
volt, which was supposed to have been
crushed, has been revived, and is spread-
ing rapidly. The natives attacked the
British outpost at Nkrang, and were re-
pulsed unly after several hours hard
fighting.

‘NEW Yomr, April 12.-——A meeting of the
cutters and manufacturers was held late
yesterday afternoon. Both sides expressed
willingness to have theiwhole trouble set--
tled by arbitration. The matter was left
to a committee of ten, five from each side.
