PROVIDENCE, April 8,—The contest over
the will of Mrs. Josephine A. Barnaby,
the-widow of the former clothing mer-
chant of Providence and Boston, has come
to an abrupt ending, John H. Conrad, the
s'on-in-law, having withdrawn. The will
gave 810,000 to the family of Edward Ben-
nett, the Adirondack mountain guide;
$10,000 to the family of Edward Worrall,
of Chester, Pa., and $25,000 to Dr. T.
Thatcher Graves, the Providence physi-
cian who was sentenced to death at Den-
ver, C010,, but who is now held. there for a
new trial. The Bennett-s and VVor'ralls,
have been settled with, but no oifer of a
settlement has ever been made with Dr.
Graves, who was named as the sole execu-
tor, under the widow’s will. The with-
drawn}: ,of the Will contest from the
supreme court indicates that the prosecu-
tion of the murder charge at Denver will
undoubtedly be dropped.

JoLIST, 1115., April 8.——A serious acci-
dent occurred on the drainage channel at
Vlimlw, a village ten miles north of this
shit. A heavy wind caused the top part of ,

Dishstrous Fire in Kentucky.
ASHLAND, Ky, April 8.—The most dis.
extrous fire that ever visited this section
occurred at the extensive yards of the
Yellow Poplar Lumber company, at Coal
Grove, 0., just opposite this city, yester-
day afternoon. The entire plant was de-
stroyed, together with twenty-four private
residences. John Massil was seen on top
of the planing mill, and is supposed to
have perished. Occupants of the residences
barely escaped with their lives. The loss
will reach 87 50,000.
Hughes’ Victim May Die.
HUNTINGDON, April 8.—John McGray,
who was so frightfully slashed in the groin
with a carving knife by “Abe” Hughes, at
’ the latter’s home in the mining village of
Minersville, in the Broad Top region, this ,
county, on “rednesday afternoon, has suf-
i‘cred excruciating agony, and it is reported
he is sinking rapidly. Hughes, who did
the cutting because of McCray’s alleged
insulting remarks to Mrs. Hughes, has not
yet been arrested.
Hold on a liIurder Charge. '
OSWEGO, N. 17., April 8.—Yesterday Mrs.
' Parkhurst and James Brown, her farm
hand, were arrested at Volney, this county,
on the charge of poisoning the former’s
husband a year ago. It is alleged that the
couple have been unduly intimate both
before and since the death of the husband,
Charles Pal-khurst.
