A regular monthly meeting of the
Common Council will be held on Mon-
day evening.
The grand masquerade ball of the
Knights of Pythias takes place at
‘Music Hall on Monday evening.
Mrs. William Russell of Newark, N.
J ., returned home yesterday after a
short visit with friends in this city.
A horse belonging to F. D. Lawton

evening, breaking the harness and
slightly damaging the wagon.
To-day is the first of April and those
persons who can’t find time to go out
after the gay and festive truntwrll wait
until evening and "angle” for book
beer and sauerkraut.
The case of Joseph Lyonsof Stam-
ford, who has been confined in Bridge-
port jail on a charge of stealing a coat
belonging to William Gilbert of East
Norwalk, has been settled and With-
drawn.
Nearly all of the available seats for
the “Frogs of Windham” have been
. checked off and the opera‘no doubt
prove a grand success. It Will be pre-
sented next Tuesday, Wednesday an
Thursday evenings at Music Hall.

and Sauerkraut will be served with the
celebrated Ruppert’s Bock Bier at
Jacob Linxweiler’s to-night.
The case of John Fallon, .who was
arrested. for assault, breach of the
peace and drunkenness, came up be-
. fore Justice Barrett this morning, and
was continued until next Tuesday. At-
torney Walsh is counsel for Fallon.

An attempt was made to wreck the
engine at the Electric Light station,
Thursday night, by the placing of a
quantity of emery in the oil cups of
the eccentric rod. Fortunately the fact
of the villainous act was made appar-
ent in time to avert serious damage.
The fixtures of the South Norwalk
Athletic Club were removed from the
gymnasium yesterday afternoon. They
will be stored until the new building,
which the club is to occupy, is ready
for being fitted up. The club will re-
tain possession of the room formerly
used as a parlor. The old room will
be immediately fitted up by Mr. A.
Kelsey.

The funeral of Mrs. Flora Trow-
bridge, mother of C. S. Trowbridge,
was held at the family residence, come
of South Main street and Hanford Place ,
last evening at 8.30 o’clock. Reverends
Olin Hallock and Gerald H. Beard
conducted the services. A quartette,
composed of Messrs. Horace Hatch,
Jesse Tolles, Henry Tilly and John
Wehle, sang “Rock of Ages” and
“Jesus Lover of my Soul” in a very
impressive manner. The remains were-
taken to Bridgewater on the 10.10 train
this morning for burial. The family
accompanied the remains.
People residing in the vicinity of
Graniteville were treated to a very
lively fistic encounter last evening.
About fifty broken down, but very
“game” Sports went up on the hill back
of the city and pitched a ring. The
principals represented Ireland and Af-
rica. Africa proved too much for his
opponent and knocked him completely
out in the first round. The brother of
the vanquished hero then took up the
fight and after several rounds of hard,
fighting, succeeded in downing the
colored man. A well known sport
acted as referee. Some one starteda
story that the police were coming and
the many and varied sports took to
their heels and left the spot in a double
quick march.
