' Sharp Struggle. .

Marshals.
PAms, Tex., March 29.—The Choctaw
.feud has resulted in bloodshed. A des-
perate encounter took place at Antlers,
Indian Territory, at 2 33 o’clock .yester-
day afternoon, and for 30 minutes a
storm of leadan hail tell about the town.
There were a large number of men on
each side. Ten men were killed .and 15
were wounded. .
One side represented the Choctaw Gov-
ernment and were termed the National
Militia. The other was composed of fol-
lowers ot V. M. Lock, who resisted ar-
- rest, fearing that he would be killed in-
stead of being given a trial by law.
United States ofiicers arrested 19 of the
leaders of the militia at 6 p. m. and
brought them here.
In the Choctaw elections last Summer
there were charges of fraud. Four men
were assassinated. This led to a faction-
al war, which was suppressed by United
States troops. The present trouble is the
outgrowth of the late election, when
Jones defeated Jackson.
The militiamen began the attack. They
numbered 78, and formed in the woods on
the outskirts of the town. The charge
was made on the residence -of Lock, the
leader of the National Party, and the
militiamen began firing as soon as they
came within sight of the house. Lock
saw them coming and ran within the
house. With five other men he returned
the fire from the upper story.
Fully 1, 500 shots were fired, and every
window was shot out, and the walls of
the house Were riddled with bullets.
Stray bullets‘fie'w farand wide and caused
consternation among the inhabitants of
the little town. ..
Lock’s wife and little children were
locked up in one of the rooms of the
house which was besieged by the com-
pany of Indian militiamen. The villagers
sympathized with these helpless ones,
and as soon as the firing ceased anxious
men and women removed them to a eater
place.
It has been impossible to secure the
names of the killed and wounded up to
this time, because their friends carried
the bodies away and secreted them for
fear at more trouble.
Capt. Durant only commanded the
m1litia in the absence of Capt. Thomp-
son. The latter c’ame up during the melee
at the Lock House. Mr. Gibbons called
out to Capt. Thompson that nobody for
whom there was a warrant was concealed
in Lock’s house. Capt. Thompson then
ordered the militia to cease firing. As
soon as the order was given the militia
retired to the. camp and physicians were
sent for toicare for the wounded.
In the meantime the story of the row
was sent to the Government officials, and
a telegram was sent in reply, stating that
warrants had been prepared for the arrest
of the militiamenI and that a force strong
enough to arrest .them would be sent.
The arrest of the militiamen was made at
8 o’clock.
When the physicians arrived they
found three wounded men in Iock’s
house. Mack Hill was shot through the

Lnother Alleged Wife Poisoner and Much
Evidence Against Him.
I NEW YORK, March 29. ——The case of Dr.
Robert W. Buchanan, charged with mur-
dering his wife in a manner almost iden-
tical with that of Carlyle W. Harris,
opened in the Court of General Sessions
yesterday. The Government case was
outlined by Assistant District Attorney
Osborne.
He reviewed closely the history of the
boyish- looking prisoner. He told bo'w he
had attended the College of thsicians
and Surgeons in Chicago, and 1 ad gone
later to Edinburgh to complete his medi.

taken a pretty young auburn-haired Wife
with him across the ocean.
Later, he had settled (low 11 in this city
to the practice of his profession. In 1893
he had trouble with his young wife and
secured a divorce. Shortly after this,
wile No. 2 comes into the case. She was
Mrs. Annie B. Sutherland, the keeper of
a disorderly house on Halsey street,
Newark. Buchanan married her 17 days
after obtaining the divorce decree.
This is the woman he is charged with
murdering. Hehad often said he. had
married her for;;_11er money, and spoke of
her in terms the reverse of compliment-
ary. He openlygejoiced over her death,
and said she hi left him her money.
Then he went to Nova Sootia and re-
married the young wife from whom he
had been divorced. ,
Several witnesses were examined, but
the most important testimony was that
of Restaurant Keeper Richard W. Ma-
oomber, who tOld of the will'made by Mrs.
Buchanan in her husband’s favor. The
doctor represented to witness that the
woman was his' patient and wanted to
marry him.- Macomber said that Bu-
chanan told,him;he'was getting tired of
his wifeand was going to get rid Of her
at any cost. He said after his wife’s
death that she was's morphine eater and
that i! the'body were disinterred it would
be found to be: full of morphine. '
Maebmber then told of Buchanan’s
tron-bid pinind when the newspapers
picked up the matter and of his terrible
fright when he learned that the body had
been exhumed.
The case was resumed this morning. ‘

Greene 0! the Federal Court filed a very
important opinion yesterday in the case
of the Edison Electric Company against
WestinghOuse,- Church, Kerr & Cu, in
which he upholds the Edison patents.
The suit was brought to decide the
question whether the device used by the
Trenton Electric Light Company for the
distribution of the electric current is an
infringement of the Edison patents, and
the court virtually declares that it is. ~
A8 a result, companies all over the
United States whichere using the system
illegally will have to stop.
Millions of dollars are involved in these
rights and will accrue to the Edison
companies.‘ The patent in question is
that covering the censumption and feed-
ing wire method of distribution. Edison
obtained it 10 years ago. ..
