The fair and entertainment given by
the ladies of the Methodist church," at
Music Hall, last week, netted a trifle
over $435.
Mr. William Colegrove has been pro-

aspirant has been appointed -to wield
' the broom. *
A special meeting of the South Nor-
walk Athletic Club will be held to-mor-
row evening, after which the members
will be treated to a fine musical and
athletic entertainment.
Palestine Castle, No. 2 A-. O. K. of
M. E. will confer the third degree on
eleven candidates this evening, after
which the fourth degree will be worked
upon all Sir Knights of the Castle.
One week from to-night the Knights
of Pythias will give their seventh annu-
al masquerade ball at Music Hall.
Nothing has been spared to make this
the finest of any of the masquerades
ever given by the order. ‘
" Yohrn Churdy was arrested for theft
at the factory of the Norwalk Look 00.
This morning before Justice Barret, he
pleaded guilty to the charge, but as the
Lock company did not wish to im-
prison him, he was fined $5.00 and
costs. Churdy paid up.
The ease of contractor A. Bach, who
was arrested last Thursday on several
charges brought by Oscar Anderson,
came up before Morrell this morning.
Mr. Bach plead guilty to assaulting
AndersOn and paid the costs. On the
other charges he was found not guilty
and was discharged.
A new mode of petty thieving has
been adopted in our city of late. Many
housekeepers put their milk bottles out
at night with the money in them.
_ When the milkman arrives, the cans
are found all right, but the money is
missmg. .A strict watch is being kept
on suspicious acting boys and it is
likely that the guilty parties will be
found ere long.
Edward Dauchy, engineer at J. C.
Wilson and 00’s. hat factory, met with
a_ painful accident this morning. While
lighting the fires under the boilers a
back draught of air caused the fires to
burst out from the furnace doors, barl-
ly burning Mr. Dauchy’s hand and
singeing his hair and eyebrows. The
inJured man came up street where Dr.
Bohannan attended to his injuries.
The hand, although painful, is now do--
ing nicely. .
I‘lr. Griffith Becomes 3. Count.
NEW YORK, March 27. —- Ridgeway
Griffith, ex-turf writer, ex-editor and
ex-Secretary of the Gloucester race
course, who resides in Brooklyn, at 545
Lafayette avenue, is now the Marquis of
Drogheda, succeeding to the title of his
grandfather, who died in England a few
days ago. Mr. Griffith is quite a charac-
ter, and is well known on nearly all the
prominent race tracks in the East,
spending much of his time in this city,
although Philadelphia. was his home for
many years.

NEW YORK, March 27.—Russell Harri- ~
son’s five-year-old daughter, Marthena,
who was ill of scarlet fever in the White
. House, {has not recovered her health
since the fever was cured, and is now in
this city undergoing a special treatment
at the hands of Dr. William J. Morton.
She has been suffering from nervous ex—
citability, accompanied by twitching of
the muscles. Her treatment is of the
same nature as that which Dr. Morton
gave to Gen. Grant and Mr. Blaine.
