Senator'lliorgair 193.25 Recovered.
LONDON, March 22.-—In, an- interview
United States Senator John T. Morgan
sated that he has recovered from his re-
cent sickness, and that he would start for
Paris at once. Senator Morgan was a
passenger on the American Line steam-
ship New York, which arrived at South-
ampton on March 4 on her first voyage .to
that port. On the passage he was thrown
from his berth, sustaining injuries which
resulted in an attack of erysipelas, from
winch he has now entirely recovered.
He is one of the arbitrators on the part of
the United States in the Bering Sea mat-
ter, and goes to Paris to take part in the
dcliccrations of the Court of Arbitration.
The Caravcls Reach Havana.
HAVANA, March 22,—Thetwo Columbus
caravels, the Pinta and Nina, arrived
here under the escort of the two United
States warships, Newark and Benniug—
ton, to take part in the great Columbus
naval review at New York.
De Cobain Convicted.
BELFAST, March 22.—Edward Samuel

LONDON, March 22.——Rowley, the crack

Mayor of Moscow Assassinated.
Moscow, March 22— The Mayor of
Moscow was shot in the abdomen with a
revolver by a man ”named Adricanofi.
He died shortly afterward. Adricanoff
was arrested.

Prime Minister Giolitti yesterday re-
fused to publish a list of the overdue ac-
ceptances held by banks implicated in
the recent financial frauds.
It is stated that the grand autumn ma-
neuvres in Oldenburg, Hungary, will
witness a meeting between Emperor
Francis Joseph, William II. and the
Czar. _
The Federation of Master Cotton Spin-
ners’ meeting yesterday at Manchester
practically refused to accept the offer of
the striking cotton spinners to submit to
a two and a half per cent. reduction.
A semi- ofiicial statement at Sofia an-
no‘unces that the Bulgarian Government
does not intend to recognize the attitude
of the foreign powers against the pro-
posed constitutional qualifications and,
in particular, against the introduction oi
the hereditary sovereignty.

Unfounded Report That the Millionaire

SAN FRANCISCO, March 22.—The sensa-
tional statements regarding John W.
Mackay’s condition which have been
publishcd here and wired East are very
much exaggerated. Mr. Mackay, when
seen in his room at the Palace Hotel, said
he was feeling very well. His pulse and
temperature are normal, and the physi-
cians consider him absolutely out of
danger. He is in good spirits, and_,feels
that he will be about again before many
days. He had“ some stomach trouble last
week, but he has almost entirely recov-
ered from it.
Rippey, his assailant, has fully recov-
cred.
Mailed Dunning Postal Cards.
RUTLAND, Vt., March 22.—-John Trow,
president of the Granite Savings Bank
and Trust Company at Barre, has been
' arrested for alleged illegal use of the
mails. Mr. Trow sent a dun for debt
written on a postal card. M. K. Brown,
the Republican candidate for Mayor of
Burlzngton, was lined in the United
States Court for the same offense.
A Gleason Elan Suspended.
NEW YORK, March 23.—William Fcth,
clerk to the Long Island City Health
Board, a Gleason holdover, was Suspend-
ed on charges of neglect of duty preferred
by Dr. 0. Mulet of the Boards The trial

NEW YORK, March 22.——It was reported
last night from an authoritative source
that J. Pierpont Morgan, Who .sails on
the Majestic today, goes on an important
ment. It is stated that he has been au-
thorized to negotiate a loan for the Gov-
ernment of $50,000,000 in gold.
The fireport is apparently well-founded.
Mr. Morgan Was in Washington last week
and held aioug conference with Secretary
of the Treasury Carlisle.
Of course neither Mr. Morgan nor the
pected to say anything for publication on
the subject. Even if it be true that Mr.
Morgan is going to London for the pur-
pose stated, noue of the Treasury officials
Would admit it.
However, there are many things that
seem to confirm the report. Mr. Mor-
gan’s friends say that only the most im-
portant business would’take him out of
the country at this time.
It has been predicted in some quarters
that any bonds. sold by the Cleveland Ad-
ministration to foreign bankers would
probably be floated by an old-fashioned
Jacksonian Democratic banking house,
the Belmonts, and through them by
their European principals, the Roths-
childs.
The financial kings of Europe would
then be doing for this country what they
have done for many years for the king-
doms oi the Old World, and what they re-
cently refused to do for Russia. .
But Mr. Pierpont Morgan’s trip to
Washington on Monday and his long
conference with Secretary Carlisle indi-
cate that the Belmonts are out.
The Gold in the Treasury.
WASHINGTON, March 22.——The state-
ment issued by the Treasury Department
yesterday gives the gold in the Treasury
as $106,575,003, a gain of $4,000,003 within
the last 10 days.

Democrats Decide to Go Ahead and Re-
organizc Them.
WASHINGTON, March 22.—-Tuere bids
fair to be considerable excitement in the
Senate Chamber before the present ex-
traordinary session comes to an end.
The Democratic Senators have decided
that they have a periect right to reorgan-
ize the force of Senate employee, and have
named the men who will fill the chief
places. They are cx-Rzpresentatlva \«Vil-
liam R. Cox of North Carolina for Sene-
tary, Richard J. Bright of mdiana for
Sergeant-at-Arms, and the Rev. ‘N. H.
Milburn for Chspfaln. Mr. L. Q. Wash-
ington, who was a candidate ior the Sec-
retaryship up to a week ago, wahdrcw,
and his name was not considered.
These names were decided upon at a
caucus of the Democratic membsrs of the
Senate held yesterday.

of New York city has begun a suit here
“to wrest the person and property of his
brother, Henry \V. Dixon, from the
raudulent and undue possession and
control of Henry A. Root, a lawyer of
New York.”
Dixon claims that his brother has been
made the victim of Root’s hypnotism, in
which process figures Mrs. F. D. Hay-
wood.
The basis oi the suit is lhe recovery ot
$20,000, the remnant of the fortune" of
Henry W. Dixon, who has been adjudged
insane. James W. Dixon alleges that
further sums belonging to his insane
brother have been unlawlully appropri-
ated by Root.
