Joseph H. Richards has accepted a

Gustav Peterson, the Swede who de-
posited a cash bond of $10 for his ap-
pearance last night at police head-
quarters to answer to a charge of as-
sault,fa11edto appear last evening at
the appointed time and his bonda was
declared forfeited, by Justice Barrett.
The final full dress rehearsal for the
entertainment, “Ye Deestrict Skule”
which is to be given under the auspices
of the First M E. Church, will be held
at Music Hall this evening. The piece
will be presented to- -morrow and Wed-
nesday evenings at the fair which the
church 1s to hold.
George Washington Gladstone 1s now
the possessor of a cycle with which to
ride to and from the police office It
has three wheels and George makes a
.fine appearance as he sits upon it.
Sam Ireland says Glad bought the
machine for his little boy, but became
so fond of the sport that the boy will
be obliged to continue riding in the
baby carriage.
The celebration of the thirteenth an-
niversary of the organization of the
Germania Saengerbund at Germanic
Hall last evening was a very enjoyable
event. Alarge number of the mem-
bers and their wives and sweethearts
were present who spent the evening
dancing to the excellent music of
Heine’ s orchestra and otherwise mak~
ing‘ merry. The festivities continued
until about 3 o’clock this morning.
For the benefit of those who wish to
appear before the Legislative com-
mittee on railroads at Hartford, Wed-
nesday, 22d, relative to the bill of Mr.
Lees of Wostport which proposes to
place all drawbridges in care of the
state, the Consolidated road will offer
for that day special rates of fare, pro-
vided 50 tickets are sold. The round
trip from Westport will be $1. 80, and
from other towns in proportion, l\I.r
Lees says.

1 Cut His 'rnroa't With a Razor.

Adams committed suicide in the base-
ment of his home by cutting his throat
with a razor. Ada-m5 had been in ill-
health for some time and at intervals had
been insane. W. F. Adams, a brother 0‘:
the suicide, came here yesterday to take
him to his 0; 'd home near Gardiner, Ma.
and preparations had been made to lean;
this afternoon.
Gone \V'ith the Bank’s Money.
FALL RIVER, Mass., March 21.—Henry
13. Palmer, teller oi the Fall River Na-
tional Bank, has been missing from home
since Sunday. The directors examined
the books yesterday and found an appar-
ent shortage of $6,000. The young man
has been prominent in soc: 9.1 ciscl es, a.
member of the Baptist Church, and of a
highly respected family.
Ex-Senator Saulsbury Dying.
WILMINGTON, DeL, March 21. -— Ex-
1721:. ed States Senator Eli Saulsbury is
critically ill at his home. at Dover, and
1 his death isiexpeoted. He has long been
a sufferer from rheumatism. He was in
the Senate from 1879 until 1889, and was
succeeded by Anthony Higgins.
Scanlan Slightly Improved.

Scanlan, the comedian, who is in a. criti-
cal conditionirom paresis, was last night
reported by the Bloomingdale Insane
Asylum physicians as resting comforta-
bly, and he appeared somewhat impr'oVSd
in physical strength.
