gentlemen who were near, grabbed the
lady and carried her to a place of safe:

The annual election of the Old Well
Hook and Ladder company was held in
the parlors of the company last eve-
ning and resulted in the election of
Frederick L. Northrop, foreman,
William Stevens, 1st assistant, and
Henry Bussing 2d assistant,
James Smith of Co. D, who contest-
ed the election of John W. Penning-
ton as second lieutenant of that com-
pany, reported the matter to Co]. Frost
last Saturday, who sustained Mr. Smith
and declared him elected to the office.
Mr. Smith claimed that on the first
formal ballot, he received 20 votes which
was a majority, the other candidate
having received 18, and one vote scat-
tering.
People in the vicinity of Belden
Point one day this week were surprised
full- fledged cow- boy. A closer exam-
ination shdwed that the object of their
curiosity was none other than Dana
Bissell, who formerly worked for Alder-
man Judson. Dana was attired in a
buckskin suit, top boots, beaiing laige
spurs, and slouch hat. 1111'. Bissell fills
the position of superintendent of the
live stock department at Mr. Burch-
ard’s farm.
