Mrs. C. W. LeCount died _ at her
home in East Norwalk, last mght.
Mrs. John E. Kidd, of Walden, N. Y. ,
is visiting her sister, Mrs. S. Samuels,
of this city
Brady, the pugilist, who is to fight
Lane next Thursday night, was in this
city this morning.
Owing to the excessive coldness of
the weather this morning, several of
the hat factories stopped work.
- Messrs. Thomas Welch and Charles
Flynn of this city, left this afternoon
for Brooklyn, to attend the wedding of
a friend.
Mr. Louis Sheldon, who has been so
~ dangerously ill, is now improving 1ap-
idly, and it is hoped that he will soon
be about again.
Mr. John Waterbury of this city, lies
in a very serious condition at his home
on Roton Hill. It is feared that he
cannot recover.
Dr. Lockwood and Jacob Grant gave ‘
earnest and profitable talks on temper-
ance at the Washington street bridge,
yesterday afternoon.
Mr. John S. Hines has abandoned
the idea of ever becoming a successful
hatter, and has accepted a position in
v the Lockw'ood Mfg. Co.
The three-masted schooner, Sarah
Thorpe, which was reported on the
rocks at Cockenoe’ 5 Island, succeeded
in pulling 011' yesterday.
The Young Men’s Debating Club
will meet at the temperance hall on
South Main street to-morrow evening.

The masquerade of the Germanic.
Seengerbund will be held at their hall
on Washington street bridge to- mor-
row evening. Heine’s orchestra will
furnish musm.
A long line of unsightly telephone"
poles are being stretched along our
' principal streets, making it almost 1m-
possible to travel thereon, and yet no
one seems to know just where the com-
pany got its authority.
The funeral of George V. York was
held from his late residence on South
Main street yesterday afternoon. It
was attended by a large number of
sorrowing relatives and friends. Butler
Lodge, No. 97, I. O. O. F., attended in
a body.
Michael Connors, for whom the po-
lice have been looking for some time
past, one charge of being implicated
in the Bull Run junk stealing case,
was surprised at his home in Bull Run
yesterday morning by Chief Volmer
and two other officers, arrested and
brought to the city lockup. This
morning, Justice Townsend gave Con-
nors a hearing, and placed him under
bonds of $300 to await trial next Fri-
day.

Nicholy Jensen, of Washington, has
patented a simple device that greatly fa-
cilitates the accurate setting of watches.
It consists in a lever, which when pulled
out stops the second hand at the sixty
point. After this the other hands are
set, and when the second hand of the
regulator reaches the sixty point the
lever on the watch being set is pushed
in. This releases the second hand and
the other two ‘at the same moment. The
three hands thus march in step—Pitta-
burg Dispatch.
