The ball given by the Mayflower
Hook and Ladder Co._ at Music Hall
last evening was a brilliant success. A
large party was present, the music was
fine and everybodfithoroughly enJoyed
themselves. The aton, Cole & 'Burn-
ham, and Seamstress companies of
Bridgeport, Hope Hose, and Pioneer
H. and L., and Phoenix Engine compa-
nies of N orwalk, and the Bethel Hose
00. of Bethel, were present and took
an active part in the festinties, as did
also the Chief, ex-Chief and Board of
Engineers.
A woman who has been working the
badger game successfully for- some
time in Westchester 00., was arrested
in this city last night. It seems that
the woman recently hired a man 'to
burn her house, ofl'ering to pay him
five hundred dollars for the Job.
The business was done, but the woman
then gave him but $150.00. This an-
gered the incendiary who preferred
charges of arson against the woman.
She was tracked to this city, and With
the aid of Deputy Sherifi' Pugsley
of Westehester county our police
found her in the Mahackemo Hotel.
She was immediately arrested: The wo-
man gave her name as Sullivan, and
was elegantly attired, wearing about
$5,000 worth of diamonds. She consent-
ed to go back to Westchester county
without requisition papers and, there-
fore, _the sheriff took her away this
morning.
