The junk theft case of William Lin-
coln, the expressman, is being heard
to-day before Justice Townsend.

The next sociable of the South Nor-
walk Athletic club, Thursdav_ evening,
promises to be the most enjoyable of
any of the former ones.

Dame Rumor has it that a certain
younglady typewriter of this city, and
a gentleman from Stamford are soon
to enter upon the sea of matrimony.

Mr. Charles E. Bartlett and Miss

Carrie C. Richards were married last
Friday evening, February 3d, 1893, by
J udge George D. Keeler, of Elizabeth
street.
' John Kelly, Frank Smith and Frank
Mooney were fined $3 and costs .each
for drunkenness, by Justice Coolidge,
this morning. Not having suflicient
funds with which to meet the run on
their bank accounts, they were sent
over the road.

Henry McDowell, the man who con-
fessed to the murder, in Vermont, of
John Crowley last April, and who was

locked up here to await the arrival of -

oificers from Bennington, is still con-
fined here. awaiting the arrival of the
sherifl' of Bennington county, with ex-
tradition papers. ,

AGAINST ANNEXATION.

The Beat Sugar King Will Object to tho
Movement from Hawaii.

ST. LOUIS, Mo., Feb. 6.—-'I‘he movement
to annex the Sandwich Islands will find
an outspoken opponent in Washington
within the next two days in the per§>n
Oi Henry T. Oxnard, the beet sugar king
of America, who has just returned from
Honolulu, and who is now On his way to
the seat of the United States government
to speak fbr the interest of his own and
kindred industries. Mr. Oxnard returned
from Honolulu on the same steamer that
bro‘ught OVer the Hawaiians annexation
commissioners, whom he terms the
“sugar ring boomers.”

 

Hill May Make 8 Speech.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 6.—Senstor Hill an-
rived here yesterday from New York
where he went to consult his iriendt
relative to the Silver bill. It islander-
stood that the Senator, prior to making
his motion to take up the bill to repeal
the Sherman Silver act, will ask unani-
mous consent to deliver a speech on the
silver question.

Her Captain Badly Hurt.

NEW YORK, Feb. 8.—‘I‘he steamship
Europe, newest and swiitest oi the Na-
tional liners, which got in yesterday, was
18 days on the voyage from London.
Her usual time is about 13 days. She
bucked against high seas and westerly
gales all the way across. Capt. Robinson
was thrown down the cabin companion-
way by the lurching oi the ship and
broke several ribs. He was unable to
move from his berth when the Europe
