He Only Killed Two Men.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Feb. 4. —— James
Sullivan, who killed J. N. McCullock last
Sunday, was surrendered to the sheriff by
VJill McKinsey. He gave himself up to
McKinsey so that the lattei' could get
the $430 reward offered for the arrest.
Sullivan claims self-defence and that
McCullock is only the second man he
has ever killed.

CHEYENNE, Wyo., Feb. 4. -—-’Another
requisition has been issued upon the
Governor of New York for Charles A.
White, the ex-husband of Mrs. E. Nagle,
the $400,000 widow. The charge in the
second information is assault with intent
to kill. It is based on testimony brought
out during the hearing for divorce.

Injured by an Explosion.

WORCESTER, Mass., Feb. 4.—Fourteen
men-Were seriously injured in an explo-
sion at the Star Foundry in this city, at
the corner of Washington and Lamartine
streets. Patrick H. Judge, night watch-
man, 46 years old, married, was mortally
injured. All the others were more or less
seriously hurt.

Russell Harrison’s Law Suit.

MARION, Ind., Feb; 4.—The suit of Rus-
sell Harrison against the Delafleld Con-
struction Company came up yesterday,
but littlelwas developed except that the
General Electric Company of Boston was
made a party to the suit. The case was
continued until today.

A New Trial for Dr. Graves.
DENVER, 001., Feb. 4.—The Supreme
Court has issued an order in the Dr.
Graves case calling for a new trial. Dr.
Graves will be taken from Canon City
to Denver at once and the question of
bonds determined.

A Gift of, $100,000 for Harvard.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass, Feb. ,4.—By the will
of the late William F. Weld of Brookline,
who died on January 7, Harvard receives
a gift of $100,000. No specifications as to
its use are made.

The Commissioners to Ask Nothing
But Union.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4.—The commis-
sioners from the Provisional Government
Of Hawaii arrived in Washington yester-
day afternoon and will call formally upon
the Secretary of State today. An appoint-
ment will then be made for a formal re-
ception of them and on Monday the dis-
cussion of the question of Hawaiian an-
nexation will be commenced in earnest.

Beyond the arrival of the commission-
ers there have been very few, if any de-
velopments in this momentous and inter-
esting subject. The commissioners them-
selves have nothing to add to what they
have already so fully given to the public
While on their way from San Francisco to
Washington. The public now knows
their case, they say, as well as they know
it themselves. They will ask for annex-
ation with this country, but are not com-
mitted to any particular form of annex-
ation. They will be content to accept
whatever this Government thinks is the
best method to be employed to place the
islands under the protection of the
United States flag.

The announcement from the British
Foreign Ofi‘ice that England not only has
not protested against the proposed an-
nexation of the Hawaiian Islands to this
country but‘ that she. is satisfied that
Englishmen and English interests in
Hawaii will be safe under the jurisdiction
of the United States, has been received
with much satisfaction in Washington.
Secretary of State Foster, however, de-
clines to state how he and the President
regard this announcement, or whether
it affects in any way the attitude of the
Government towards the question of an-
nexation. "

But it is well known, however, that
the administration feels that England
would not have made the voluntary an-
nouncement had that Government not
been convinced not only that there is
nothing for her to protest against, but also
that she would not protest if there were.

In fact the administration does not an-
ticipate a menacing attitude on the part
of Great Britain on this subject.

IN PARLIAMENT.

Callan’s Statements About Dr. Gallagher's
Insanity Denied.

LONDON, Feb. 4,—In the House of Com-
mons yesterday William Redmond
(Parnellite), member of East Clare,
called attention to the statement of
Thomas Callan, the dynamiter who was
recently released from Portland prison,
that Dr. Gallagher, who is still confined
in the prison, had been made insane
through bad treatment. Mr. Redmond
asked if Mr. Asquith, the Home Secre-
tary, would sanction such an independ-
ent inquiry to be made in Dr. Gal-
lagher’s case as the Irish members could
rely upon.

Mr. Asquith declined to permit an in-
dependent inquiry. He added that he
had already caused a careful inquiry to
be made into the mental condition of Dr.
Gallagher, and he was satisfied that the
prisoner was perfectly sane. The state-
ment made by Callan was absolutely
without foundation.

In the House of Lords the Queen’s
speech was accepted without a division.

THE CRISIS IN EGYPT.

Lord Cromer Says More British Troops
May Have to be Landed.

LONDON, Feb. 4.—'~A dispatch was re-
ceived at the Foreign Office from Lord
Cromer, the British Minister to Egypt,
saying that the condition of affairs in
Egypt may compel the landing of all the
British troops who have been ordered to
that country. . .

CONSTANTINOPLE, Feb. 4.——The ulemas,
or theological jurists,.of Constantinople
have sent an answer to an appeal from
the ulemas of Cairo'to the effect that the
Sultan sustains the Khedive, and that
the Turkish Ministers ”are discussing
whether to protest to the signatory
powers in general against English inter-
ference in Egypt, or to address a remon-
strance first to Great Britain.

The Navajos Making Trouble.

CITY or MEXICO, Feb. 4'.-—The War De-
partment has received dispatches from
the Federal and military authorities of
the State of Sonora saying that the
Navajo Indians are committing many
depredations in the northern part of that
State, and that the settlers in the valleys
of the Sierra Madre Mountains have been
the victims of many serious outrages.

A Millionaire’s Suicide.

NEW YORK, Feb. 4.—--Ed_ward H. M.
Just, a millionaire, who laid the founda.
tions of his fortune making shirts at 709
Broadway, shot and killed himself last
night at 6 o’clock. His relatives think it
an accident, but it was probably caused
by brooding over the loss of his wife and
two children who were lost at sea.

Killed Himself for Love.

CHICAGO, Feb. 4. — William McIlroy,
the well-to-do New Yorker who com-
mitted suicide at the Auditorium Hotel
three weeks ago, is said to have been
driven to the act by the coldness of a
young Chicago woman with whom‘ho

FATHER “RILEEN WINS. I

The Text of Mgr. smears Decision in the
Charges Against Bishop Wigger.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4.—The final'de-
termination arrived .at by Archbishop
Satolli, Apostolic delegate, in the much-
diseussed controversy between Father
Kileen and Bishop Wigger of Ne'Wark
was made known last night in the fol-
lowing announcement, which, it will be
perceived, is adverse to the position
taken by Bishop Wigger: '

“The Right Rev. Bishop of Newark and
the pastor -of St. Mary’s, Bergen Point,
N. J., Father Kileen, came today to
Washington, on citation by the Most
Reverend Apostolic delegate, and in their
presence he rendered .the following de-
cision:

“First—St. Mary’s parish Shall extend
to Twenty-sixth street, that is to say, up
to St. Henry’s Church.

“Second—A new parish is formed of the
two churches—St. Thomas’s and St.
Henry’s—the Church of St. Thomas be-
ing the principal and the Church of St.
Henry the subordinate.

“Third—As there is no parish residence
near st.,Thomas’s Church, the pastor of
the parish formed of the two united
churches will reside for the present at
St. Henry’s.

“Fourth—The Church of St. Thomas
shall be restored and reopened, and on
Sundays and holidays the second and
principal mass shall be celebrated in St.
Thomas’s. . ,

“Fifth-All sermons and instructions,
not only in St. Thomas’s, but also in St.
Henry’s Church, shall be given in the
English language, there being but few
Germans in St. Henry’s Church V and even
those few understanding English.

“Sixth—The present rector now resid-
ing“ at St. Henry’s is allowed to remain,
but his successor shall be an English-
speaking clergyman. This concession is
made because Of the present scarcity of
priests in the diocese.”

EDGAR CROUSE'S MILLIONS.

Twenty-Seven First Cousins are Now
Fighting for Them.
SYRACUSE, N. Y., Feb.4.—The heirs to
the wealth of the late D. Edgar Grouse
have made a move the design of which is
to force the hand of the lawyers having
charge of the claim of his putative child,
Dorothea Edgerita Crouse. The Object is
to bring Mrs. Kosterlitz and the child
into court in Onondaga county instead of
in New York as would happen if she took
the initiative. The New York Security
and Trust Company Of 46 Wall street,
New York city, was appointed general
guardian for Dorothea Edgerita and will
make the claim in her behalf under the
residuary clause in the will.

The action brought on behalf Of- the
heirs is really to determine who are the
“next of kin,” and it is upon this ques~
tion that depends the disposition of the
millions of dollars which are devised to
the next of kin. The plaintiffs in the ac-
tion are the 27 first cousins of the , dead
millionaire. ,.

- CONFESSED HIS CRIME.

A Lakewood, N. J ., Express Agent Robbed
His Employers.

LAKEWOOD, N. J., Feb. 4.—Wm. 0. De
Hart, agent for the United States Express
Company here, was arrested by Constable
Fogarty at Bethel, about three miles
from Lakewood, on a warrant charging

the company.

DeHart did not attempt‘to resist arrest,
although he was evidently trying to es-
cape from the neighborhood when cap-
tured, but went quickly back to the ex-
press office with the constable. There he
confessed to Rent Agent Hathaway, who
arrived here yesterday to make his usual
monthly examination of the books, that
he had appropriated about $400. He also
took 386 out of his pocket and handed the
amount to Hathaway.

MOTHER AND , CHILD BURNED.

Thurber Killed -‘Vliile Trying to
Save Iicr Daughter’s Life. ,
SCHENECTADY, N. Y., Feb. 4.—-Last eve-

ning a five-year-old daughter of William

Thurber of Duane avenue while playing

with matches set fire to her clothing and

was quickly enveloped in flames. Her
mother ran to the child’s assistance and
attempted to extinguish the flames. The
mother’s clothing caught fire and she
was fatally burned, her body from the

neck to the knees being burned to a

crisp. The child was almost cremated,

death resulting instantly. The mother’s
injuries are such that she will undoubt-
edly die. _

HUGHES WILL SURRENDER.

He Will Return and Serve His Term in
the Penitentiary.

ROCHESTER, N. Y., Feb. 4.—John, Thein
of this city, who is the next highest

Seeking Pardon for Giblin.

ALBANY, N. Y., Feb. 4.—Henry Hart-
man and Joseph A. Hennessy, lawyers of
New York city, were before Gov. Flower
yesterday in behalf of Charles Giblin.
Some additional aflidavits and memo-
randa were submitted. Giblin is serving
a life sentence, and his counsel say he is
in the prison hospital very sick and is
threatened with insanity.

Snow Storms in Northern New York.

WATERTOWN, N. Y., Feb. 4.—A snow
storm bringing about six inches of heavy
