Mr. Megan ran away on Washington
street this morning, and continued his
flight up Fairfield avenue, where he
was stopped by Clifford fiThompson.

Many diversified opinions are ex-
pressed by citizens in regard to the ac-
tion of the Council in failing to con-
firm the election of Chief McGowan.
Various rumors are heard regarding
the action of the fire companies intend

Miss Carrie Badman of East Nor-
walk was badly injured while skating
on the pond at the east end of Wash-
ington street bridge last night. Miss
Redman was gliding around the glass-
like surface of the pond amidst the
vast throng of merry skaters, when
she collided With a young man. Both
fell, the young man landing across
Miss Redman’s neck. She was ren-
dered unconscious by the fall. Tender
hands removed the injured young lady
to Hafner’s store, and Dr.'Clark was
summoned. He administered to the
young lady ’s wants. It was some time
before she had recovered sufficiently to
be removed to her home.

 

 

By resolution in the House yesterday
Congressman Owen Scott of Indiana, call-
ed on the Secretary of the Treasury to
report on the progress of all public build-
ings throughout the country. He says
contracts for such work are systematic-
ally held up because of the depleted
Treasury.

At a meeting of the State Forest Com-
mission in Albany, 35 proposals were re:
ceived for the purchase of state lands
aggregating about 7,0,4} sores, lying out-
side the Adirondack 13522;. The bidders
offers from $4 to $8 p=.:.- acre, and this, the
Commission declares, is more than it ex-
pected to get for the lands.
