’ Mr. James Oortle has returned from
a visit with friends in Newark, N. J.
The regular monthly meeting of the
South N orwalk fire police was held last
night.
The pond at the east end of Washing-
ton street bridge is now in excellent
condition for skating.
Those holding chances on the Ma-
hackemo Billiard room pipe are reques-
ted to be present this evening, when
the pipe will be rafiled. -
Messrs. Joseph Lowndes and John
Bur-chard have returned to school at
Andover, Mass, after spending the
holidays with their parents in this city.
Douglass Fowler Post, G. A. R. and
the VT oman’s Relief Corps have re-
ceived and accepted an invitation togo
to Stamford to-morrow night and Visit
Hobbie Post of that town.
One of the dangers of the Washing-
ton street crossing is the Tramway
track, where it curves around the cor-
ner. Carriages have already been
caught in the track, and it is feared
that it will yet be the cause of some
serious injury. ,
The annual meeting and election of
oflicers of the South N orwalk Athletic
Club was held last evening. Mayor
George Lockwood was elected _presi-
dent; Edward Rooney, vice president;
Edward J. Hayes, financial secretary ;
Charles Taylor, treasurer. The elec-
tion of recording secretary, trustees
and board of governors was laid over
until next week.
Three men who forget their good
New Year’s resolutions, were up before
Justice Townsend this morning. They
were John Bay, a drunk, and James
Monaghan and Allen Denny for breach
of the peace. Bay was fined 33 and
costs, Monaghan $1 and costs, and Den-
ny,.pleading not guilty, his case was
continued until 3 o’clock this afternoon,
J. B. Raymond giving a bond of $15
for his appearance. Ray and Mona-
goan were rai.roaded, as they had no
money. .
